Chapter 1: Bullying is not a valid management technique
This should not need to be said, but bullying is not a valid management technique. Management by intimidation is managing people with fear. It’s not a very effective way to get people to do work. There are other better ways to maintain work levels and increase accountability.
It’s also expensive because it encourages fraud and reduces transparency as people start lying to avoid the bosses’ ire. This, in turn, negatively impacts decision making – because leaders end up making decisions with bad or inaccurate information.
Finally, it causes negative effects on morale. No one likes working for a bullying boss. No one. It also serves no legitimate purpose.
