Think On These Things - Latoya Brewington

    Author

    Introduction

In the day in which we live, there are so many things that can steal the attention of the believer. We constantly see violence, scandal, and conflict in our schools, communities, families, and yes - even in the church. We deal with the ups and downs of the stock market, the uncertainty of an ever-weakening economy, and the turmoil within our governmental systems. By the end of one’s day there is a tendency to feel spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally drained. In dealing with the present issues of our time it is no surprise that we’ve seen a rapid increase in rates of depression, suicide, mental illness and other sickness. Yet, in the midst of all these things, the believer is expected to be in perfect peace. You may ask, how can one expect to have peace in the midst of such turmoil and distress? Well, beloved, I’ll tell you how. You think on these things. What things, you ask? The promises that are given to the believer. Philippians 4:8 says: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. In this book, I want to remind and encourage you, my brothers and sisters, that those who are in Christ are not as those who have no hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). For as children of God, as the seed of Abraham (Galatians 3:24), as heirs with God and joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17) - we have it all. Any and everything that we need to sustain us has been given to us in the Word of God. It is up to us to stretch forth our faith to see the release and manifestation of what is already ours. How can this happen? It happens when we change our mindset. The Bible instructs us in Philippians 2:5, Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. It tells us in Romans 12:2 that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. My point is, that whatever you allow to dominate your mind is what you shall see manifested in your life. If you allow worry over your tomorrow to overtake you, then you should not be surprised when your today leaves you feeling miserable, overwhelmed, or to put it quite frankly - hopeless.

In this latter day, when the Bible is fulfilling its prophetic speaking’s of the end of times, you must keep your mind focused on the Word of God. In order to do that, you must think on the Word of God. In the chapters to follow, you will find food for the mind, otherwise known as the bread of life or manna from Heaven. Digest this Word; allow it to penetrate your spirit, mind and soul. For in John 5:39, Jesus speaks and says, Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life and they are they which testify of me. This book is written to remind you of the promises of God and to help you to enter into triumphant and joyful living. No matter what you may face in the days to come or what you have experienced in the past, God has something to say about it. Don’t listen to the devil and feel that you can’t make it, or that you won’t overcome your circumstance. Jesus has already overcome the world, therefore causing you to be more than just an overcomer. You are more than a conquer! Now that you have it, let’s revisit Philippians 4:8 again:

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true (emphasis added) whatsoever things are honest (emphasis added), whatsoever things are just (emphasis added), whatsoever things are pure (emphasis added), whatsoever things are lovely (emphasis added), whatsoever things are of good report (emphasis added); if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things".

So, I invite you to journey with me as we explore the Word of God to find solutions to problems, answers to questions, and encouragement for the weak or brokenhearted. Let’s see what God has to say about our lives, so that what we think and speak in accord with His word and plans for us.

    Chapter 1

    I Need Peace

There is rarely a day that you can read the daily newspaper or watch the evening news and not hear of some tragedy. We now live in a time when there seems to be no peace. Mothers are against daughters and fathers are against sons. Our children display anger and frustrations through extreme acts of violence, which often leave them to be victims of their own madness. We see nations against nations and the world seems to wax colder every day. If we are not careful, we could easily become overwhelmed by the rampant displays of hatred and genocide. Even in our spiritual growth, sometimes there seems to be little (if any) time to stop and meditate on the greatness of God because of the trials and tribulations that believers are experiencing on every side. We must be careful that when we witness such chaos that we do not allow it to overwhelm and torment us in our minds. We must think on these things:

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we
