I take a drink of my hot cup of coffee as I smile across the table at Carrie.  You seem distracted, I say as I put my cup down on the table.

Distracted.  Is that all?  My wife turns her bright blue eyes toward me as she moves a few strands of her shoulder-length hair from her face.  The whole street is full of university students, Dennis.  Why again did we move into the city?

I chuckle.  Honey, you know that this job is a good move for me.  You were so supportive of my hiring as one of the university’s financial aid officers.

Sure, I supported that, she replies while grimacing.  I just didn’t think it would require that we move right into the city.

It’s a reduced rate here, I argue as I move my coffee cup around on the table.  We are paying half what we would have paid if we had rented a house in the suburbs.

Half.  Carrie shakes her head.  I don’t think it’s half the cost to be here, Dennis.  We could have found something smaller outside of the city.

And miss the university life? I joke as I wave my hands around.  I thought you wanted to be where all the action was, honey?  After all, this will make great fodder for your blog.

Carrie arches an eyebrow as she stares back at me from across the table.  Seriously?  What am I going to write about here, Dennis?  We have moved into a university town next door to a house where about a dozen students will be living.  What is there to write about?

I shrug my shoulders.  I don’t know, sweetheart.  Maybe you could write about your experiences living next door to the university students? 

"I write about women’s issues.  My advertisers are not interested in drunk students stumbling half-naked around the front lawn of the house next door." 

Standing to my feet, I walk over to the window where I can see the students moving their things into the house.  They are not drunk or half-naked right now.

Sure, not now, but they will be this weekend.  I turn just in time to see Carrie scrunching her nose in disgust at where we live.  We could have been in the suburbs in a nice, small house.  But no, you had to be within walking distance of the university.  I hate this, Dennis.

I know, Carrie, I reply as I walk back over to the small dining table and take my seat.  Just give this a try for a year, alright?  When the lease is up we can consider where else we would prefer to live?  Until then, you should see if there are any stories that you could write about our time here.

Like I just told you, I can’t write about a bunch of students next door, Dennis.  It’s not what I do.

I know, I know.  You want to write about women’s issues.  You do realize that there are about six or eight young women who will be living in that house next door, right?  You should talk to them about what it is like to live with the guys over there.

Why?  It’s not my schtick.

"Well, you need to make it your schtick, my love.  It would be great reading and you might even pick up a few guys for your blog.  That would be nice, huh?"

"To have men read my blog posts?  Carrie shakes her head.  If you spent any time at all reading what I write you would not be asking me to find something to write about next door, Dennis."

I do read your posts, Carrie.  I especially liked the one a few weeks back about sex while pregnant.  That was an interesting read when considering you have never been pregnant.  I grin from ear-to-ear when I say this, knowing full well that my wife doesn’t want children.  It has been a caustic argument-starter for the both of us over the last few years, but at thirty-two I feel that I am ready to be a father.  It’s been very difficult to convince my wife of this idea, though.

I interviewed several other women, she replies coldly.  You know me better than that, Dennis.

Sure, I know you.  I also know you can take literally anything and make a post about it if you really want to.  Just get to know the students next door and I am willing to bet that you will see a story or two come up out of thin air.

I don’t think so.  Carrie lifts her own cup of coffee to her lips and takes a sip.  I am enamoured with her, no matter what we might say to each other during our little arguments.  At thirty years old, my wife is the picture of a fit, petite woman.  She is five-two, one hundred ten pounds, and works out five days a week.  Carrie is a health nut of sorts, her body sculpted with soft curves and lean muscle.  Sex with her is amazing, when we have it, and I sometimes find myself wishing she had a twin sister we could bring into bed with us.  Of course, such thoughts are best confined to my brain where they are not on display for my wife to see or know about. 

Maybe we could invite them over for dinner sometime? I say jokingly
