The Story Of My Mother

About this ebook
This is the biography of Madam Arit Dan Abia, a humble yet exemplary figure. In a world where traits of kindness, love, selfless community services and forgiveness are rare to come by, Madam Arit demonstrated genuine love and true concern for all people regardless of race or standing during her lifetime. She gave all she could to people and never wanted much for herself and what little she had, she shared. Her philosophy was underpinned by the divine exhortations that there is more happiness in giving than in receiving. She therefore sought to live by this mandate.
Madam Arit provided leadership and direction not only within her matrimonial family but also within the large community that she lived. Despite her limited formal education, her involvement in social and political activities within and beyond her community provided inspiration for many women. This work is an attempt to give a narrative of her life. In doing this, it is hoped that young girls and women in general will be motivated not to allow their birthright and social circumstances to limit their contribution to the society in which they find themselves. Her story reveals how young girls can take decisions in difficult circumstances of their lives. It shows how women can strive in the face of adversity and unfortunate events in their lives to still make a contribution to their community. It is a story of a loving, committed mother and a virtuous woman.
