‘I’M KEEPING OUR LANGUAGE ALIVE’

A passionate and proud Pertame, Southern Arrernte woman, Aboriginal elder Christobel Swan is one of the last few remaining fluent speakers of her language. The 75-year-old is dedicated to her fight for Aboriginal language rights, preserving her people’s native language and gifting it to the next generations.

“My language means the life to me... the world,” Christobel, who grew up south of Alice Springs, tells Woman’s Day.
