I live in the English countryside with a loving spouse, two equally wonderful children and assorted pets who have their affectionate moments – usually when they’re hungry.I like to write adult-themed stories featuring realistic women coping with realistic situations: no vampires, zombies, aliens or eye-watering sexual gymnastics. Any sexual content is appropriate, realistic and fully consensual.Writing is an occasional pastime; my goal isn’t fabulous riches, but simply to entertain.

    Fiona’s future vanished.

Her hands shook. She read the letter again in the faint hope she’d misunderstood it. She hadn’t. It slipped to the floor.

Tea. I was going to have a cup of tea.

She picked up the kettle, but her brain stalled. Turning, she stared at the letter on the floor.

Mum and Dad. I need to talk to Mum and Dad.

She tried to put on her coat. Several seconds later, she realised that she was still holding the kettle. Habit got her to check that the door locked behind her, then she was back out in the street.

With no working brain in charge, Fiona’s body ran on autopilot. It got her across roads safely, but otherwise it just moved her feet. She stared fixedly at the ground a few yards in front of her.

A streetlight flickering into life kick-started her thoughts briefly. Why is it dark? It was a sunny afternoon when I got back to the flat. Wasn’t it sunny? Her conscious mind closed down again.

Figures loomed up in front of her on the pavement. She stepped into the road to go around them, but they moved to block her way. A hand pushed her in the chest and she staggered to a stop.

Where do you think you’re going? A young man’s voice. Swaggering.

It was several seconds before the words
