Hotwife Gambles Her Marriage - A Wife Sharing MFM Romance - Karly Violet

    Chapter One: A Promotion

Las Vegas was more than I had bargained for when Melissa and I went a couple of months ago.  It has taken some time to move past some of what my wife was involved with, including the gambling.  I wondered for a time whether I would need to cut off the internet connection to the house to keep her from playing online casino games.  Thankfully, she found Dr. Kelly Ingram and learned to control the addiction to gambling that became so strong during our time in Vegas.

You will be just fine, I say to Melissa in a text message.  Today marks the beginning of her third week without having played a single online gambling game of any sort.  She is scheduled today to speak to a group of recovering gamblers in a small group at Dr. Ingram’s office.

I don’t like public speaking, Thomas.  It sucks.

I laugh to myself as I get to the office door.  You will do great, beautiful.  I have to go.  I have a meeting.  Good luck, Mel.  I love you.

I love you too, she messages back just before I slip the phone into my pocket.

You wanted to see me, Mr. Crisp? I say to the man behind the desk in the store’s office as I open the door.  There is another man in the seat facing the desk from the other side.  It’s not until he turns his head that I recognize him.  Mr. Hardy.  I didn’t know you were going to be here today.  Smiling, I walk up to the regional manager and shake his hand.

Well, I thought today would be a nice day for a drive, so here I am.  The middle-aged man looks at the seat beside him and says to me, Come have a seat, Thomas.  Nodding my head, I walk around and take a seat.  So, how is the menswear department doing?

Fine, I reply as I smile at Mr. Hardy.  We have been running very smoothly.  My friend Dalton is the head of the department at this time and I have been quietly waiting to see where Mr. Hardy would prefer to advance me.  According to him, a promotion is to be expected in due time.

That’s good to hear.  Even with the headache you had at the Las Vegas store, do you still want to move into a management position, Thomas?

Yes, I do, I reply confidently.  It’s time that I stretch my legs a little career-wise.

And you are certain that you would not like to consider going back to the Vegas store?  I haven’t told Mr. Hardy or Mr. Crisp why precisely I don’t want to be transferred to the other store, but they both know that I would rather rip my own fingernails out.  Melissa has a problem with gambling that could sink us financially if we dare to ever go back there.

I am happy here, I tell him.

Good.  Mr. Hardy looks over at the store manager before telling me, I have decided to promote you to the assistant store manager position, Thomas.  Congratulations.

I look from Mr. Hardy to Mr. Crisp and can see that the congratulatory feeling is not exactly mutual.  However, as I turn back to Mr. Hardy, I ask, Why such a large step up?  I thought I was going to be a department manager.

I know, Thomas, but the more I thought of the job that you did in Las Vegas, the more I realized that your talents would be squandered in a position like that.  You are store manager material, so I thought that you could put yourself to use under Mr. Crisp’s tutelage.  Maybe one day soon you might even wish to run a store yourself.

Oh, wow, I say as I feel my face turn deep red.  This is beyond any of my wildest expectations.  I don’t know what to say, Mr. Hardy.  I really appreciate the opportunity to prove myself and to do a good job for the company.

He pats me on the shoulder.  I believe you will be a shining star for us, Thomas.  Getting up from his seat, Mr. Hardy turns to me and offers his hand.  I stand up as well and shake his hand before he makes his way toward the office door.  Mr. Crisp will get you situated and make sure that you have all that you need to be successful.  I will be keeping an eye on your progress as well.  The regional manager smiles before opening the door.  I will see you two gentlemen in a couple of weeks.  Have a great day.

You too, I say as Mr. Crisp sits silently at his desk.  After Mr. Hardy closes the door behind him, I look back at the store manager.  Thank you for the chance to do this.

Mr. Crisp is a tall, muscular man with a deep voice who is not the sort to be overly jovial in the best of times.  At this moment, he appears to be even less happy than normal, which causes my skin to prickle as he looks up at me and sighs.  This is not my idea.  I just want to make sure that you understand that.  Leaning back in his chair, he motions toward my seat.  I sit down and quietly wait for him to explain himself.  I don’t have to wait long as he continues, Mr. Hardy seems to be under the delusion that a floor worker is suddenly and innately capable of running an entire store.  I do not agree with his assessment.  His dark blue eyes look evenly into mine as he sighs once again and then becomes silent.

Working up the courage to respond, I say to him, I am sorry that you don’t feel that way, Mr. Crisp.  Let there be no doubt that I look forward to learning whatever I can from you while I am in this position.  Trying to stroke a man’s pride is one way to soften him up, but it does not appear to work so well as I employ the technique.  The store manager’s expression changes very little.  I just hope that you will give me the chance to show you what I can do.

Mr. Crisp looks out his office window as he tells me, I don’t expect you to make it through your first month as assistant manager, Thomas.  It’s nothing personal, I just think you are in over your head.

But you heard about Vegas, right?  I did alright there when the store manager went AWOL.

Sure, you did a fine job with a new store where the staff knew virtually nothing about the way we do business.  From what Mr. Hardy told me, it wasn’t all that hard for you to be the hero in that scenario, especially when the manager there was considered.  Mr. Crisp looks hard at me once again as he adds, This is an established location with established expectations, Thomas.  We make a great deal of money here, and I don’t intend to allow some snot-nosed newbie come in and wreck things.

Snot-nosed newbie?  I have worked here since before you were a manager here.

He leans forward and points a finger in my direction.  I don’t care if Mr. Hardy thinks you are some sort of messiah, you are not taking my store from me.  Do you understand?

I nod my head.  I don’t think there has been any talk like that, Mr. Crisp.  I’m not after your job and Mr. Hardy isn’t looking to get rid of you.

What do you know about Mr. Hardy’s plans, Thomas?  He could be looking for a way to move me out of here by bringing an assistant manager in to play second-fiddle.  Since when do I need a fucking sidekick?  Mr. Crisp snorts a bit as he stands to his feet and looks me over.  This store has operated just fine without an assistant manager for years, and we sure as hell don’t need one now.

Okay.  I feel goosebumps run down the length of my neck as I sit back in my seat.  So, you won’t support me as assistant manager?

Mr. Crisp stares back at me and replies, I have no choice.  You are the chosen one as far as Mr. Hardy is concerned, so I will have to give you the benefit of the doubt.  The store manager grips the edge of his desk as he adds, However, I will be looking to see where you fuck up, Tom.  If you step in the shit, I will smell it and I will make sure that Mr. Hardy smells it as well.  I hope that is clear.

Yeah, that’s clear, I tell him as I think about the verbal picture he has painted for me.

Good.  Mr. Crisp waves toward the door.  Go make yourself useful.  Standing to my feet, I make my way to the office door and then walk out.  Closing it behind me quietly, I give some thought as to the store manager’s attitude toward me.

This guy is going to be a complete asshole, I say under my breath as I walk toward the store floor.

Hey, Tom, what was that all about? Dalton asks as I get back to my area.  "What did Mr.
