SERVICE WITH A SCOWL

I enjoyed the article about the new vehicle-repairs situation in South Africa (YOU, 1 July). For many years car dealers haven’t only locked car owners into service plans but the prices are way above private repair shops that can do just as good a job.

In 2014 I took my daughter’s Mazda 2 to the dealer for a quote on a simple three-item service. To change the engine oil and filter was R463,98 for oil and filter and a whopping R711,36 labour charge (to undo one drain plug).
