    Life, Simply - Adriana Septembrie

    MIDNIGHT

The midnight is so still, as if it came to stay.

I am out for a stroll, sitting alone

On the stone bench in the bus station

At the end of the village, between the wheat fields.

One or two cars have passed by since I’m here

And the lights of a train had fluttered quickly

At a distance, long time ago.

Behind me, I know are glittering

The lights of the villages up on the hill.

I should go home... to my room invaded by

The concert of scents from the garden.

My father is probably still reading

And my mom has perhaps fallen asleep,

The open book in her hands and her glasses on

Or I’ll find her outside in the summer kitchen

Attending to some late hour housekeeping.

What a family!  And then I wonder why

I softly ignore, day after day,

    Matters of most pressing practicality,

And wonder between wheat fields and vineyards,

On the hill, or by the river...

What a waste, some will say.

    But,
