The Ketogenic diet has been around in western medicine since the 1920’s, but knowledge of the science behind it dates back to ancient Greece. When you limit the consumption of sugars and trigger the creation of ketones you cause the body and brain to use fats instead of sugars for energy. That’s the process in a nutshell. The reason this diet isn’t recommended for certain individuals is simply because these people either don’t digest fat very well or as is the case with children and pregnant women, they need a higher amount of protein.
