The first time I started knitting I used a light color yarn because it helps me see the stitches more clearly, and a bright color yarn will show you when you make a mistake so that I will suggest a light color yarn for a beginner. The bulkier yarn is easier to work with and help you cope with frustration in the long run. Make the yarn you friend, feel it as part of you and see how it goes.
