()
About this ebook
from many poems written by Jiten Borkakoti
during 1964 and 2011. It is hoped that
people from all walks of life will enjoy reading the
poems that deal with human emotions of love in its
multifarious dimensions, and also with the wider
questions of human existence and timeless eternity.
Hence, the title of the book aptly is Love & Life.
Some poems are relatively more abstract than others,
but abstraction helps to capture emotional depth and
intensity. A poem in the last analysis is a painting of
a thought painted in words.

Preface
302456-BORK-layout.pdfI have been writing poems, off and on, for about forty-five years; but it is only recently, after my retirement, that I have started the process of seriously editing my poems for publication. The reason is both circumstantial and personal. I was keen on writing poetry in my twenties; but being an economist by profession, I found myself teaching mathematically oriented economics and writing abstract articles for almost four decades. During this period, I found that there existed a clash of ‘moods’. Poets require an emotional disposition or a mental framework that inspires them to write poems. During my professional career, therefore, poetry writing unfortunately dropped to a trickle. It was only after retirement that the flame of poetry lit up my heart again. I found inspiration and poetry came flooding back to me. The fact that I write poetry was not known even to my colleagues and friends with a few exceptions. Now it has come as a surprise to my friends and ex-colleagues.
From the poems written during 1964 and 2011, I have selected sixty-five poems for publication. I hope people from all walks of life, ranging from doctors and scientists to housewives and taxi drivers, will enjoy reading my poems. This is because my poems deal with human emotions of love in its multifarious dimensions, and also with the wider questions of human existence and timeless eternity. Hence, the title of the book aptly is Love & Life. The style of a few poems is not modern, as I like sometimes to write in metrical form. But the most of my poems are in modern style, and these are written in vers libre. Some poems are relatively more abstract than others, but abstraction helps to capture the depth and intensity. A poem, in
