About this ebook

My poems are my My Kit of Knowledge, they were written over a period of 40 years. I would write a lot because words were always swirling around in my head. My lack of education hampered me. I didn't have much faith in my abilities. Then I remembered my old school motto PERSEVERENCE GAINS HONOR', and no matter what, I persevered. In August 2012 a feeling came over me, that I needed to share my poems, that it was my time to fly. I contacted Xlibris they became my launching pad. Xlibris is helping me to fly. My gratitude to them. I am a mother of 5 children, 2 daughters, and 3 sons. My eldest child a son has passed away. I have 10 mokopuna (grandchildren). I am in all of my poems, my children and mokopuna will have a lot of years to discover me. Have faith in your own ability to even achieve the
impossible. Arohanui (big love ) Kate

Hi my name is Kate and I was born in Auckland New Zealand, December 1942. My father is a New Zealand Maori with Irish and English bloodlines. My mother was born in Edinburgh Scotland. Mum came to New Zealand when she was 2 years old. I am the eldest child born from their union. I started writing Poetry about 40 years ago. The first poem I wrote was "The ranks within". My writing was intermittent, maybe 1 poem every 5 years. One of the schools I went to had a school motto "Perseverence gains Honour". I have always kept this as one of my codes to live by. My husband baptised me a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints in 1973, and another period of learning began from that day forth. My faith has always been my strength. A poet is an observer, and so it is I am an observer, trying to convey to the reader what I see or feel. I am grateful to Heavenly Father for the many gifts He has given me, especially my talents in my hands. My Maori poems are who I am, please enjoy my poems, and I hope you will find my peace.

My Kit of Knowledge - K.D. Aspinall

    Autumn

Summer has gone and autumn is here

You see it in the trees

When autumn got a paint brush out

    And painted all the leaves

    She started in a flurry

You scarce could guess her plan

    As autumn and her palette

    Took to all the trees

    Scattered throughout the land

    In valleys and on hillsides

    In parks and gardens too

Was this beauty of autumn’s colors?

Bold and beautiful for all to view

    Autumn’s colorings were awesome

Her talent God’s gift to behold

As we were amazed at the richness of her colors

Rich reds, yellows, oranges and subtle dabs of gold

Autumn had noted the starkness of our landscape

    Her colors she dabbed everywhere

    Filling our hearts with gladness

Just knowing this special artist had been there

But alas soon it will be autumn’s time

    Her season will be gone

And we must wait another year

    Until autumn’s talent will transpire

    Winter

Autumn has gone and winter is here

You see it in the trees

    When winters wintry breathe came

And blew away all the leaves

The trees stood tall and naked

    Their leaves scattered everywhere

Winter had sent out his challenge

Come and play with me if you dare

    Winters grip was unrelenting

As his cold spread over the land

Icicles hung from the trees and fences

And frost lay on the ground

And atop the high mountainous regions

    On hills and valley’s low

    Was this white ice crystal
