FOREWORD
This poetry collection of Kasi Senge Senghor is alive with meaning through descriptive words. It uses language richly with alliteration and imagery that causes reading to be filtered with the sound of an African drum, the tapping of feet, and a feeling that the body is in dance motion. However, these poems espouse a philosophy which is projected with many themes, such as: friendship; unrequited love, intimacy, struggle, identity, liberation, self image, conformity, heroes. These contextualize the poet’s feelings about Life, Community and Caribbean history. While many of these poems may be deemed personal, there is an objectivity which allows the reader to relate or to share Kasi’s space.
Therefore, each poem, regardless of its weight, can engage readers to explore their own feelings, to raise their own questions or to redefine the problems the poet delineates. In other
