About this ebook
Chel and Riley receive a strange phone call from a friend they havent heard from in a long, long time. Sagon has called from his uncles home a few blocks away. To their surprise, Chel and Riley realize that Sagons uncle owns the spooky Cunningham place that most of the kids in the area believe to be haunted. When Sagon calls, he sounds scared and is looking for the two friends to come over and help him spend the week at the uncles place until his mom can get back from a business trip. Chel and Riley are not sure about helping out their old friend, but Rileys mom reminds him that they need to be faithful friends and be there for him.
Chel and Riley get more than they bargained for when they arrive. Not only is the house spooky on the outside, but a sudden thunderstorm forces the two to go inside immediately after they arrive. Much to their surprise, Sagon is nowhere to be found, and the two are trapped inside the spooky house. Chel and Riley must now test their faith as they search the spooky mansion for their buddy and try to find a way out. Will their faithfulness to their friend hold true, and can Chel and Riley figure out a way to escape the haunted house?

This one is for Morgantown Baptist Church, the birthplace of Chel & Riley. Thanks to all of you for allowing me to play a part in God’s ministry there for the last 35 years. Especially the last 13 or so years, which included the many adventures that Chel & Riley and their crazy friends experienced together. Thank you for all of the support you provided me and my family through the good and tough times. You were always so encouraging to me and gave me opportunities to use many of the gifts God blessed me with in many different ways. You will always be remembered and loved. Continue to serve the Lord and remember to pray for me and my family as we branch out into new ministries.
In Christ

Chapter 1:
A Scary Invitation
No … NO … NOOOOO, Ahhhhhh!
Chel screamed as she rolled off of the couch and onto the floor with a thud.
Waking up suddenly, she looked around the room. Tears were streaming down the sides of her face. Chel realized that she was home and in her living room, but she was alone.
Mom!
Chel called out loud. There was no response. Mom!
she called again and Chel started to fear that her mom was missing.
She got up off of the floor and ran through the house looking for her mother. Room after room Chel charged and called out Mom,
but got no answer. Chel finally got to the kitchen, looked around and called for her mother. Just outside the kitchen window, Chel noticed her mom working hard in the garden in the back yard.
Oh, yeah,
Chel remembered. She had been helping her mom all morning out in the yard and had decided to lay down for a nap after lunch.
Now that she knew where her mom was, Chel started to calm down a little bit and realized the terrible events that she had been experiencing was actually all a bad dream. What a nightmare!
Chel said to herself.
Chel shuddered as she tried to push the dark scary images out of her mind. I need to get out,
she said and she bounded out of the back door into the back yard.
Running up to her mom, she stopped beside her. She was working on placing a tomato plant into the ground.
Did you enjoy your nap?
Chel’s mom raised her head to look at the little girl.
Not exactly,
Chel replied.
What happened?
Chel’s mom was now reacting to the tear stains on the sides of Chel’s face. She reached up and began to touch the sides of her face, then realized her hands were caked with dirt.
I had a bad dream and it scared me.
Chel said.
Chel’s mom reached around with her hands and pulled the little girl close to her. Oh, Chel, I’m sorry.
I’m okay now Mom,
she started, once I figured out where you were I started to calm down.
I’m right here where you left me,
Chel’s mom said with a smile.
Chel squeezed her mom real tight and then as the two separated she looked at the garden. Wow, you got a lot of stuff planted while I napped.
Chel’s mom turned to look at her work, You like it?
I guess so,
Chel said, is there stuff in there that I’m going to like?
Chel’s mom reached up and wiped a streak of dirt onto her nose, of course there is,
she said with a grin.
Oooow, Mom!
Chel furiously tried to brush the dirt off of her nose.
There’s still more to be done,
Chel’s mom said as she started poking at the girl’s tummy which made Chel giggle, but first I have some errands to do. I need to run into town and get some more supplies from the hardware store, and also pick something up for dinner.
Chel’s eyes twinkled as she had an idea. Mom, would it be okay if I run over to Riley’s house while you do your errands?
Chel began hopping up and down in excitement.
Well,
her mom began, "that’s
