About this ebook

Teens have a tough time accepting the fact that they might be alcoholics, especially teenage boys. The Male Teenagers Nine Early Signs of Alcoholism, the first book in the ALERT (Actual Learning Examples of Recognizing Trouble) series is informative and easy to read, providing examples of behaviors in teens that might indicate a potential drinking problem.

Drinking alcohol is very prevalent in our society. Yet many people still believe the stereotype of alcoholics as adults who are in chronic stage alcoholism. No one begins at chronic stage alcoholism; it takes time to get to that point. Whats more, each alcoholic in turn affects five to eight peoplefamily, friends, and anyone else with whom they come in contact. Thus it is even more important to provide access to this valuable information to young people from as young as third grade and through high school and college, insuring they are fully aware of the root causes of alcoholism.

This guide fully explains the early signs of alcoholism in male teenagers and the steps that can be taken to get them help. By making this book available not only to teens but also to their parents, friends, relatives, neighbors, or anyone who may have a problem with alcohol, they can get help to beat teen alcoholism before its too late.

L ife is a journey, not a destination. On my own marvelous journey, I have encountered so many people who have been the source of my inspiration, determination, and motivation. It would be impossible to name everyone responsible for helping me bring this dream to fruition. To Angie, Jenny, Carolyn, Mary Ellen, Mary, Peggy, Charlie, Ann, Melinda, and Melissa, my deepest gratitude!

I am most appreciative of the long-lasting love and friendship of L. M., who’s been my personal muse for many years.

With deep pain (no pun intended, Dave) and heartfelt gratitude, this book is dedicated to Dave Payne, for his contribution to making this book a reality, for giving me the motivation to move the project off the back burner and get cooking again, for his ability to balance the seriousness of a sobering subject with his wit and wisdom, and for providing the male perspective that was so invaluable for The Male Teenager’s 9 Early Signs of Alcoholism. Certainly his scenarios were often more insightful from his viewpoint than mine.

Ironically, Dave was in hand-to-hand combat with his own disease the
