About this ebook

She was raised in church, while behind closed doors, secrets reigned supreme. She repressed the memories, but over fifty years later they came pouring out as she struggled with clinical depression. These poems chronologically tell of the struggle, the failures, the fears, and the victories as Joyce made the journey to regain her life. They show how God is leading Joyce on a journey from tragedy to triumph through Him.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. John 12:24

    King James Version (KJV)

Joyce had everything going for her: A great husband, three wonderful children and nine beautiful grandchildren. She had put herself through college as an adult and was well loved as a schoolteacher. Her husband pastored a thriving church and she was a beloved Sunday School teacher. She was a sought after teacher for women’s retreats. She was healthy and always on the go!

And God had a preparation for Joyce. In a story that would, in some ways, rival Job’s it seemed that each aspect of her life came unraveled. She developed severe back pain. Surgeries were not successful in eliminating her pain. Over time, and with much grief, she realized that she could no longer stand the physical demands of teaching. Sometimes she could not even bring herself to go to church. Her health failed in many ways. She began to not even recognize herself.
