    Chapter 1

    FOUNDATION

Have you ever asked yourself why you keep attracting the wrong people in your life or why do the choices that you make always seem to have the same results? The answer to your questions could lie within the structure of your foundation. Before you begin seeking answers from God about your foundation, you have to pray:

Good and gracious God, first I come to say thank you. Thank you for seeing so fit to find my foundation worthy enough to change. Lord, I am just grateful that even when I wanted to give up on myself, You refused to give up on me. Now, God, I am praying that I will receive what I am about to read even if it consists of things that I really do not like or understand. I am asking that You will give me wisdom to understand the importance of change and then to accept the changes that You will want me to make. Help me to understand the importance of knowing that as long as my foundation is grounded and rooted in your word that I can do anything but fail.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, foundation is defined as the basis or groundwork of anything. Unfortunately, everyone’s foundation is not based on the same principles, morals, and standards. Some people’s foundations are based on love, some are based on sex, or even worse, some people’s foundations are based on alcohol or drugs. To live a fulfilling life that is pleasing to God, your foundation needs to be grounded and rooted in His word.

There is a process to fixing anything that is broken. If your car is broken you take it to a mechanic, and if your nail breaks you go to a manicurist, so if your foundation is broken then you will have to go to an architect to get that fixed. What better architect to go to than the creator of all things; the one who knows what you are made of; the one who knows your ending before your beginning; the one who designed your blueprint just with you in mind; and the one who, regardless of what you may think of yourself, always thinks better of you. This person is God, and with His help, you can build a stronger foundation. The following are steps to help you build a new foundation.

    1. Clean out your house.

    2. Check your foundation.

    3. Make a list of things that are important to you.

    4. Make a different list of things that are not important to you.

    5. Put both lists away in a secret place.

    6. Allow the change to take place.

    7. Let go and let God.

The first step to building a new foundation is to clean out everything inside of you. You have to take everything out so that the only thing that is left standing is the frame. This makes it easier for God to begin His reconstruction. When a house is about to be remodeled, the contractors gut the whole house out, well that is what God needs to do with your life. He needs you to clear out everything for the process to begin. I know there are many items that you want to keep, but before anything gets placed back into your life, you have to seek God for permission because He is the contractor and architect. Trust that He will place the things in your life that He approves.

God can also be referred to as the interior designer because the interior designer picks out everything that compliments you or what would look good with your style. Do not fight God on this part of your process because it will be easier to let God design your interior because He knows everything to pick out for your insides to help you look better on the outside.

Step two is checking your foundation. Any good contractor will tell you that as long as you have a strong foundation, you can do just about anything to the inside. With a strong foundation, you can weather any storm that comes your way. However, those with weak foundations, and those with strong foundations built on shaky ground, normally have a hard time dealing with life and adversity.

Before any contractor rebuilds he has to check the foundation to make sure that it can handle the reconstruction process. God is the best contractor because He would never take you through reconstruction if He thought you could not
