    Chapter One

Run, Betsy Hobill whispered to herself as she paced back and forth in her sister’s home. She had hoped housesitting would keep him away, but it would seem her ex wasn’t about to let her go.

She rubbed her back, shivering, hearing the whip as it struck her back, tearing her skin. His mark would always be with her. No man would ever want her again. If I every trust a man again.

A playback of New Year’s Eve last year had her frowning. Betsy could still see the man who had gone with her and her sister, Griffin’s friend. She shivered remembering those beautiful silver eyes. Boy, was she the fool if he was anything like her sister Morgan’s husband.

Betsy jumped as the wind howled outside. That’s when she saw it, the key to the cabin Morgan had told her about. The cabin that sometimes-granted wishes, Betsy said, moving to the rack of keys and taking the cabin key. Perfect, she whispered.

She spun, running up the stairs to grab her suitcase, glad she hadn’t unpacked it. That night, Betsy would leave. Leaving her car, she’d walk, having an Uber driver meet her down the street just in case her stalker was watching the house.

After searching two hours, Betsy had found the address of the cabin in her sister’s journal. Yea, she hated being nosey, but she was desperate. Plus, she wasn’t about to bring her sister into her mess. Morgan was finally happy, and Betsy wouldn’t dump her problems on her or their mom. No, this Christmas, Betsy would spend alone, trying to figure out how she was going to survive.

But right then, Betsy knew she was safe. Santino, her ex, was still back there, watching her sister’s home. Betsy had seen him pull up a few houses down from Morgan’s, sitting in the car watching. She was going to Wyoming. Thank god, they had an SUV to rent at the airport. She’d stock up on food, and Betsy would be set until she decided what to do with her life.

She envied her sister; Griffin was one man any women would give their eyeteeth for. Handsome and rich all rolled in one. Plus, the fact he was a major alpha type. Oh, Betsy had seen the collar around her sister’s neck and almost cried the first time.

The one thing Betsy had craved and wanted with all her heart, but she ended up with a psycho from hell.

Excuse me, would you like something to drink? the stewardess asked.

Shouldn’t we be landing soon? Betsy asked.

You’re not from the area, are you? she asked, and Betsy shook her head.

Seems we’re going to get that winter storm. We’ll be the last plane the airport takes in for a few days. Anyway, there are a few planes ahead of us, so it will be another twenty minutes yet.

Then, give me some coffee, please. Betsy smiled at her, relaxing. Even if by some strange fact that he found out where she was going, he wouldn’t be able to get to her. But now, she really did need to make sure she stocked up, because she remembered Morgan saying if it snows a lot up there, you could be stuck there for over a week before someone would plow the roads.

Betsy took a sip of her coffee, feeling her phone buzz in her pocket.
