ABOUT THE AUTHOR Patty Tarajos always felt she was “LUCKY”, after all, she was born on Halloween and has been known to resonate a deep spiritualness and possesses an uncanny strength about her, or so us friends say. However, LUCKY, medical adversity has never been a stranger to her. Her childhood and teen years were spent in hospitals hooked up to “machines” or at home recovering from what were multiple surgeries to correct a congenital kidney defect. Even though being absent from school for days and weeks at a time she managed to get high grades and able to attend college. Patty says, “I WAS LUCKY”. Later as an adult, Patty got married knowing that for her to have a family was probably for naught and risky to say the least. One year later, Patty announced she was pregnant and nine months later delivered a healthy baby boy. Patty says "I WAS LUCKY”. It was in 1999 while showering that she felt a small lump on her right breast and shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Afterwards, her life circled around doctors, treatment options, radiation and hormone therapy - leaving her with little energy to do some of the most routine things. She also began to see what had been her fragile marriage crumble and suddenly finding herself a single parent. With mounting financial problems and an enemy called Cancer, she focused all her energy and prayers on this two-front battle and held onto the words “I cancer-vive!” Keeping a disciplined treatment schedule and juggling two jobs to make ends meet, she found space for her dreams of the future close to her heart. With the love of God, support of her friends and a doctor that empowered her to make decisions, she has been cancer-free for three years. Patty says, “I WAS LUCKY!” In 2006, Patty married John, of whom she calls her soul-mate and her inspiration. John will tell you she is his. Her friends will all say, “We are all “LUCKY” to know her”. Sweet Love
When first we met he broke down walls,
that helped for me to see.
His love was real, his heart was pure,
forever we shall be.
Wedding bells soon would ring,
and live our lives as one.
Hand in hand we’ll walk through life,
having so much fun.
My life has never been so good,
he fills it up with joy.
He gives to me his everything,
my handsome lover-boy.
Everyday so filled with bliss,
we’re never far apart.
For with every breath I take,
he beats inside my heart.
Every way, every day,
in sickness and in health.
we walk together side by side,
don’t worry
