karen Aulani Hoke

Karen grew up in Oceanside, California. She starting writing poetry at the age of 10 and quickly realized that she loved sharing her intermost thoughts and feelings with her friends. She sent a few of her early poems to poetry contests and won Honorable Mentions. Two of those poems were published in separate books of the Anthology of American Poets Collections. Another poem was wanted to be made into a song but her parents thought that she was too young so they did not allow her to sign that contract. But that did not stop her from writing. It gave her an outlet when she needed to express herself and it helped her heal when her heart was broken. She needed to do it. Her poems gave her a purpose in life. They are her therapy. She also found that her friend liked them, too. She found true happiness writing. Now, at 45, living in Lahaina, Maui, she has seen many dreams come to pass. She raised her son, Gabriel, in a peaceful paradise. She paid homage to her father by having her son follow in his Grandfathers footsteps to Graduate from his beloved Historical Lahainaluna High School. Then, found many tears of joy and pride as she and her Mother sat in the audience watching her son Graduate from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, with the equally Historical 100th Class. Her last youthful dream is to complete this book so she may leave a legacy of love to her family and friends.
