    Preface

This writing was inspired by many people—Ernest Holmes, Raymond Charles Barker, Catherine Ponder, Julia Cameron, and John Bradshaw, to acknowledge a few. Some people I studied with who greatly helped me conceptualize a modern, workable idea of God were Mary Lou Shoemaker, Joy Tuttle, Nancy Stepp, Eliz- abeth Claire, and Helen Street. Others who supported this work and encouraged in various practical ways were Rachel Goldman, Janet Fort, Steve Meyerhardt, Kevin Andersen, Kent Lederer, and Richard Drasen. Thank you.

Your journey to a closer relationship is God is unique to you. No one can ever have complete answers for another. However, these types of notes have been enormously helpful to me in my spiritual growth. I sincerely hope they are help- ful to you, as well.

    Ellen Bowers, June, 2003.

    A Note From the Author

How can you get the most good out of this book? Like any other book, you can read it, enjoy it, set it down and forget it. But your relationship with God is more important than that. You deserve a high quality relationship with God and the good life that comes with a strong, spiritual partnership.

When you read through the book, note the pages that make you feel emotional—sad, angry, or any other uncomfortable emotion. Choose a page like that, photocopy it, white out the salutation, and write your own name there, such as Dear Ellen. Then put the photocopy in an envelope, address it to yourself, and notice how you feel when you get that piece of mail and read it. Enjoy that new feeling! Read it over and over again.

Finally, as you become accustomed to this way of forging your relationship with God, draft your own cards or letters with the exact things you want to hear from God, and mail them to yourself. You know best what it is that you want and need.

Congratulations on your choice of reading this book and working with the concepts! Your life will change in fantastic ways.

    Love,

    Ellen

    Dear One,

For today, think of calm, deep calm. Think of the beauty and simplicity of natural environments—land, trees, rivers, oceans, and forests. In those environments it is easy to feel integrated and whole, one with Me. If you can, take that idea into everyday happenings and exchanges with others. I am in all of that as well.

Everything is one, one whole. In limited personhood we can’t know the reason for personal or international tragedies, but for today, it need not hurt or destroy any further. Somehow, overall, there is a balance, even if it’s not seen.

If possible, focus on the good in small happenings—kindness to a stranger or co- worker, caring for simple things at home, and care for your bodily well-being. This, too, shall pass and individuals, organizations, and nations can heal. Behind it all, remember that...

    I love you.

    God

    Dear One,

For today you can feel secure in my loving, supporting Arms. My Strength is yours to use as freely as you like. It’s inexhaustible. I am in, around, and through you and all others you interact with today. My peace, confidence, and light flow through all your experiences.

You are confident, safe, and completely secure as I wrap around you and all that you do.
