So, we now have two new couples in the village. We still need fresh blood here to keep the place alive. Does anyone have any idea who might be in need of love? Bertha asked the village committee.

Ted Baker raised his hand. I do, he said. My niece, Angel.

Ah, she who makes those gorgeous cakes, Caroline said.

We both do. They are based on our family recipes, which has given me an idea.

    Do tell us, Caroline said.

You might be aware that there is a new delivery boy.

I remember him, Bertha said. What's his name?

Pete, I recall, Ted replied. Anyway, I happened to notice that each time he comes into the cafe, Angel makes sure she is out there, and he lingers, chatting to her. I am sure he is smitten with her.

What is your idea? Bertha asked.

A new cake recipe with a secret ingredient, and no, don't ask me what it is, because I can't tell you. It has to remain secret. All I will say is that it is so special that it can make one person see another in a romantic light. It helps if they like them in the first place, of course. I will get Angel to make the recipe and add this ingredient at the last minute.

Are you sure it will work? Caroline asked, unconvinced.

    Oh yes.

What about others who try it but are not fancied?

That I don't know. We shall have to find out. What do you think?

I say, go with it, Bertha said. Anything is worth a try.

    I agree, Caroline said.

I'll go now and start the process. Ted stood up.

    Good luck, Ted, Caroline said.

He would need it, Ted thought, walking out of the hall towards the cafe in the park.

In the cafe Angel had mixed a chocolate cake, ready to put in the oven.

Her Uncle Ted came in the side entrance.

Meeting go all right? she asked, giving the mixture one last stir before tipping it into the baking tin.

Yes, fine. When you've finished that, I have an idea for you, he said.

Angel put the cake into the oven. She took out the one already baked, putting it on a cooling rack. What's this idea? she asked.

Chocolate cupcakes, he said. You make a chocolate cake to slice, which everyone loves. I think they'd like individual ones they could take away with them.

Sounds great. So on trend, Angel said. Do you have the recipe?

Here you are. He handed her a piece of paper.

There's a bit torn off the bottom, she said. Is something missing?

No, nothing that should bother you. Just let me know when you are ready to put them into their cases.

OK. I think I have all the ingredients here, so might start a batch to try out first.

Good idea. I'll go and see to our customers. Happy baking.

Angel watched him go into the shop. Mmm, she thought, that was a bit strange. He hadn't looked her in the eye, as if he was hiding something. Her uncle being shifty? Surely not!

She glanced at the recipe he had given her. Yes, she was sure they had all the ingredients. She glanced again at the torn part. Surely, something must be missing, but if her uncle wasn't bothered about it, then it must be OK.

She sliced the cooled cake into generous pieces and left it in the hatch. It would disappear quickly, she knew. Her chocolate
