The sky was grey and dreary, the fog was rolling in. The colored leaves on the trees were swaying lightly. You could see the small brown squirrels running up and down to gather their food before the storm began. Ally was sitting on her window seat next to a large double hung window in her bedroom. She just stared outside wishing she could go outside and play with her new dollhouse in the backyard. For her Birthday she received from mom and dad her very own beautiful pink and purple yard house. She had just turned eight years old. The morning of her birthday it was the biggest surprise she had ever seen. Even though it was made of hard plastic she loved it as if it were made of pure gold. She fussed with old pieces of cloth to make curtains and a matching tablecloth for her little mansion. She spent all of her free time inside her little hideaway. Daddy even got remnants of carpets in pink to match.

    Chapter 1

Today was her birthday party and her entire family was coming over for cake and coffee. However, she wasn’t the least bit interested in the family gathering she just wanted to be in her pretend house. She was in her room picking out just the right dress to wear when her thoughts went back to the yard. Sarah, Ally’s mom, had to persuade her to get dressed and ready for the party. With her little typical smirk and a quick smile she agreed. Such a sweet bright child, her hair was as golden as the sun and her skin was baby smooth. She had the longest eyelashes that could melt anyone’s heart instantly.

The doorbell rang and the crowd began to assemble. Aunts and Uncles, grandparents and her baby cousins which she loved because she mothered to them as if they were her own dollies. She was the oldest child in their immediate family and it showed. She was mature beyond her years. An old soul you might say.

The party was going well and the weather had cleared. She began opening gifts. The first was a beautiful yellow, ruffled pant suit with white flowers on the collar and sleeves. This is just what I wanted she shouted and smiled and she began tearing the paper off of another. She opened an adorable doll. Just want I always wanted she said as she hugged the little rubber baby. Can I take her to my house now mommy it’s not raining anymore? she asked. Sarah smiled politely Not just yet dear you still have quests she replied before heading back to the kitchen for more snacks. In the kitchen her husband Stephen was just finishing a sandwich. Wiping his hands on a dishtowel he shot Sarah a smile. Why not let her go outside while it’s still nice out what could it hurt he asked her. Refilling the vegetable tray she looked up at him and smiled. She returned to the family room with the tray in hand. She could see Ally was through opening her gifts and thanking everyone with kisses. Ally if you want to go outside for a little it’s alright but not too long she told her. Ally smiled and snatched up her new doll. Running toward the back door in the kitchen she shouted on her way out Thanks daddy I Love you and then the door closed behind her. Her little ruffled dress ran down the path to her hideaway.

The party had broken up and Sarah was picking up the mess. The toys, the clothes everything that Ally had gotten as gifts. She had looked at the clock and noticed that it had been nearly two hours since her little angel had gone out back. She shouted through the back door Ally come on now it’s time to have your bath. Ally was sprucing up she arranged plastic flowers she had found in the garage and some plastic dishes that she found In the basement days before. She actually make the plastic flowers come alive as if she had gone into a field and picked each wild flower by hand.

It took a little more persuasion on Sarah’s part to get her in but she did succeed. Ally had a nice warm bath, did her homework for the next day of school and was all tucked into her bed for night. Her pink bed I might add. Sarah and Stephen finished up in the kitchen got a cup of coffee and sat in the family room to relax. Stephen was flipping the remote control with his feet up on the recliner. Sarah was sipping her coffee. Stephen don’t you think Ally might be spending a little too much time out in that house alone? she asked him. He looked away from the television and into her eyes. No not at all she loves it Sarah anyway what’s the harm in it? he asked her. She thought for a moment. I’m starting to have a hard time getting her in to even do her homework and she never wants to play with any of her friends much anymore she told him. Look I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it she’s fine. It’s new to her now I’m sure the phase will wear off sooner or later he told her. Sarah sipped her coffee and smiled. Maybe we should get her a little desk for out there she loves to write stories and draw what do you think? she asked. He didn’t look up this time just nodded his head great idea well I guess we are going desk shopping tomorrow he replied. About an hour later they both went upstairs to bed taking one last peak at Ally sound asleep in her bed surrounded by dolls and stuffed animals.

    Chapter 2

The next day after school Ally did her homework right away because her mom told her that they were going to buy a desk for her house after dinner. She couldn’t have been more excited. They had a quick meal. Sarah filled the dishwasher and the three of them got into the pickup truck to go buy a desk. They were headed to the local furniture store when they noticed a small antique shop. It looked quite charming but expensive. Sarah hadn’t remembered seeing it before but it was small and easy to miss. Do you want to check this place out? he asked the girls. Yes Ally shouted. It looks a little pricey Sarah replied. Stephen pulled into the small parking lot. Let’s give it a whirl can’t hurt he said as he parked the truck.

They entered the small shop in amazement it was so cluttered with things you could hardly walk around without bumping into something. Ally had already began admiring every little thing in there. She bounced from isle to isle taking in every sight. It smelled musty and old. I think this place is full of junk Stephen Sarah told him looking around. It was so quiet not another person in sight not even a shop keeper. After a few more minutes Stephen agreed I think you are right about the junk. Ally was in her element. Nick knack galore. Crystals and gold coins, fake flowers and old glasses, you name it and it was there. It looked like someone’s old basement. Let’s just go to the store Sarah told Stephen. Just then a curtain parted. A grey haired woman in a house dress smiled at them. Can I help you folks? she asked in a frail sounding voice. Ally ran up to her immediately. I want to buy a desk for my new house it’s pink and purple and I need a desk she exclaimed in excitement. Your pink and purple house you say the woman smiled. Sarah a little embarrassed explained that it was Ally’s play house in the yard. Well isn’t that nice that you have your own little cottage my dear little one. Sarah didn’t mean to be rude but she saw nothing there. I’m sorry I don’t think you have what we are looking for but thank you anyway she told her trying to get out. As Sarah was trying to get Ally out and make a quick escape the old woman put her finger to her chin and said I think I have what you are looking for she told them. Follow me. And she entered through the curtain.

    The fabric looked as though
