Chapter 1

She was my biggest fan. Now she barely speaks to me.

I look across over the table in the conference room at Carol while John and Lilith watch the new commercial featuring Marilyn Marie as our new Crisp Thins ambassador. At one time she wanted to be just like me. Now she makes every effort to avoid me.

I don’t know what has Carol avoiding me these days. Is it because I’ve given my life to Christ? Or is it because her daughter hates my guts? I’d love to find out what her issue is with me so we can work it out.

The commercial ends and John flashes a smile at Marilyn, her agent Sabrina, and the Nabiskit reps and Morris Phillips executives across the desk. I really love this ad Marilyn. John says. You haven’t lost a step since retirement.

Marilyn lights up on the compliment. Thanks John. You never forget those old beats.

With Marilyn’s fitness and health background she’s the perfect person to represent the Crisp Thins brand. John tells our executives. The All About Crisp slogan gets older audiences to remember who Marilyn was and the product connects younger audiences to who she is today.

Did our advertising department come up with the All About Crisp slogan?" Carol asks.

Marilyn came up with the All About Crisp slogan herself Carol. Sabrina replies. With the way this ad tested with audiences you’re gonna sell at least a million boxes.

Is this part of a plan for a comeback Marilyn? Carol asks giving Marilyn a quizzed look.

Definitely not. Marilyn replies smiling back at him. I’m just trying to get people to eat healthier.

So I guess you’ll be going back to the art studio? John asks.

I’ll be there until I graduate. Marilyn says.

Sounds like Ms. Marie has a sensible plan for her future. The residuals actors make on commercials for Morris Phillips isn’t much. And a degree can take her better places than Hollywood ever did.

Then we can finalize details on the travel schedule for the Crisp Thins promotional campaign. John says.

This tour will be done by the end of New Year’s? Marilyn asks.

Since I’ll be traveling with you I’ll make sure you’re back in the city before your next semester starts. Lilith says.

Marilyn gives our former vampire a quizzed look. You’re coming with me?

It’s my project. Lilith says. And I like to be hands-on when I’m supervising."
