Chapter 1

How dare she?

I scowl watching E’steem and her boyfriend John stroll into the Java Joint with smiles on their faces. Now that she’s broken Lucifer’s yoke she thinks she can still come into a demon space. Who does she think she is?

My best friend Chloe peers up from her laptop as I point daggers at the tall voluptuous almond colored woman wearing a red wrap dress and heels and her husky toast colored boyfriend dressed in an olive green business suit, black shirt and red tie taking seats in the center of the Java Joint’s dining area. Do you want to take a picture Ava? Chloe tells me. Or do you want to ask E’steem for her autograph?

I ought to take our respect. I spit.

Respect?

E’steem’s not a demon anymore. And since she’s not a demon she shouldn’t be coming into demon spaces.

Lucifer never told her where she needed to go-

That’s one of the Lord’s biggest mistakes. If she’s ascended then she needs to be among the humans. Not loitering in our spaces and bringing Cis Christians with her.

Chloe gives me an uneasy look. I don’t think you want to mess with E’steem Ava, she’s a big wheel in the Demon community-

She’s only a big wheel because we made her popular. How is she still popular in the demon community? I snap. She cancelled her membership in the Legion when she broke Lucifer’s yoke-

I don’t know, demons just like her-

I wish I could cancel her the way she cancelled us.

Sound like you want to become her next opponent.

If I had the power to fight her I’d knock her through the window like D’lilah did. We can’t let her keep abusing us and invading our spaces-

Ava I think you’re taking this way too seriously-

I don’t think you’re taking it seriously enough Chloe.

What are you gonna do about it Ava?

I jump out of my seat and make a beeline for E’steem’s table. I’m gonna let Ms. Ascendant know she needs to find another place to get her coffee.
