    Introduction

Before you begin turning through the pages of this book, I think it’s only appropriate that I share a little about myself. After all, I’m about to offer you pointers and advice in your selling career, and you might just wonder at some point, what qualifies this guy to give advice on anything?

Well when it comes to qualifications, I’m certainly not going to be numbered with the likes of Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins, or any of the numerous mega-influencers of the business world. I’ve been enriched by their teachings many times over, and would recommend their books to anyone in our chosen profession. But as for me, I fashion myself as the guy who’s walked in your shoes, pounded the pavement, and experienced the highs and lows of what it takes to make it in the world of business development.

I’ve overcome many obstacles in my career, including stress, anxiety, fear and depression...and these even during the good times.

My hope is that this book provides you with a detour from those same perils, and sets you on a path of unlimited success...and peace.

    -Derek

Your business is never really good or bad 'out there.' Your business is either good or bad right between your own two ears. - Zig Ziglar

    Who Should Read This Book?

This book is a guided approach to eliminating anxiety and stress from your sales career.

I love to take something complex, and make it simple. And my purpose in writing this book, is to help the reader to remove the very activities that cause stress and anxiety from their selling process, and introduce them to a peaceful, happy process of building their marketability and increasing sales like never before.

While someone in a retail-oriented sales atmosphere will be able to glean some helpful insights into becoming a trusted advisor to your customers, this book is really designed for those delving into the business development role, with a focus on the complex sale.

We will talk about breaking free from several aspects of what I call the old school selling mentality, and experiencing the paradigm shift of becoming a true consultant and valuable resource to the business leaders and decision makers, of whom you’re targeting to sell.
