    Chapter 1

Caesar, breakfast! Angela’s voice rang through their brand new home.

Caralisa, their beautiful baby girl, sat cooing in her swing near the table. It was going to be her first day at daycare and Angela was a nervous wreck. She hadn’t had an anxiety attack in months, but one was creeping on her now.

Maybe I should stay home another day, she suggested.

Caesar scooped up a spoonful of scrambled eggs with cheese. "Whatever you want to do, baby, but we have talked about this", he reminded her before taking a bite.

Angela began breathing a little faster. But what if something happens? she questioned with a worried expression.

Caesar could hear the excitement in her voice. He glanced up from his newspaper. Honey, calm down. You’re going to have an attack, he said as he stood to walk to her.

Angela tried to steady her breathing. I know… I’m sorry, she said between breaths.

Caesar placed his hand on her back. He massaged her gently. You’ve been doing so well, he told her.

Especially to be going so long without sex, she commented before she could stop herself.

Angela gasped and squeezed her eyes shut. She couldn’t believe she just said that! Caesar continued to slowly rub the small of her back with one hand. He grabbed Angela’s hand with his other. Then he kissed the back of it before kissing her on the forehead.

I love you and I’ll see you tonight, he said quietly before going to gather his things for work.

I love you too, Angela echoed as Caesar walked out the door.

What was wrong with her? How could she say such a hurtful thing to her husband? Maybe it was the stress from having to leave Caralisa. Yeah, that was a good excuse, but who was she kidding? The truth was they really hadnt had sex since early in Angela’s pregnancy. She really missed being intimate with Caesar. It bothered her so much that she found herself commenting about it, quite often.

However, she couldn’t worry about it at the moment. Angela had to drop Caralisa off so she could head to the shop. Zulema had been so wonderful the past few months. Angela knew she didn’t have to worry with her best friend in charge. Still, she missed working and knew it was time to go back. Reluctantly Angela changed Caralisa’s clothes, got her baby bag, and took her to the car. Next she placed her baby girl in the car seat and prepared for the drive to the daycare.

There’s the new mommy! Zulema squealed when Angela entered the shop.

Everyone turned and smiled at Angela. The women greeted her with big hugs and kisses. They oohed and aahed at Caralisa’s pictures. Finally, Angela was able to get to the back. Zulema helped her get settled in.

Man, I thought those hyenas would never let you through, she said with a loud laugh.

Angela giggle before replying, Z, I haven’t even been back 10 minutes and already you’re being mean.

Zulema said, It’s not mean. All I’m saying is you just got here. They need to let you breathe, dang.

    I’m fine, Angela assured her.

Zulema wasn’t convinced. How are things with you and Caesar? she asked with a sideways glance.

Of course, Angela had told her about their little problem. It’s the same, she admitted.

Maybe you two should talk about it, Zulema suggested.

I’ve tried bringing it up, but he doesn’t want to talk, Angela replied solemnly.

Zulema sighed. She could see the anguish on her best friend’s face. "Do you want me to talk to him?" she asked.

Angela jumped to her feet with a loud, startling gasp. No, no, no he doesn’t know I told you about it. You can’t say anything! she urged. Promise you won’t!

Zulema placed her hands on Angela’s shoulders and gently sat her back down. Calm down, Angela. If you don’t want me to say anything, then I won’t. I just don’t want you to be hurt, that’s all, she said.

I told you, I’m fine, Angela said quietly.

For a short time there was an awkward silence. "So, how’s your love life?" Angela questioned.

Usually they would talk about Angela’s problems. However, she felt it was time to talk about someone else’s life for a change. Zulema answered, Well, it sucks. Henry moved out and he won’t answer my calls. I’ve tried dating but it never works out. After I screw them I lose interest.

Angela shook her head. She wanted to giggle but didn’t want to make Zulema feel bad. Why are you sleeping with them in the first place? she asked.

Zulema shrugged. She looked so distressed. Just lonely, I guess, she replied sadly.

Angela could’ve kicked herself. Her question ended up making Zulema feel bad anyway. She stood up to hug her friend. Things will get better, she said.

Zulema squeezed her back and said, I know. It will for you too.

Across town, at Dr. Kim’s office, Caesar was sitting in his office with Dexter. The two often drank coffee together in the mornings. It gave them time to discuss their problems and get advice from each other. Caesar was talking about Angela as he often did. He told Dexter what she said that morning.

I mean, I could really go without comments like that, Caesar finished before taking a sip of coffee.

But can you blame her? Dexter asked.

Caesar thought about it then sighed. I guess not, he replied as he looked down into his mug.

Dexter set his cup on the desk and leaned forward. I know it’s gotta be frustrating. Aren’t you backed up? he questioned a little quieter

You know what I do, Caesar was more than a little embarrassed to admit it.

Dexter sneered. I couldn’t do it, he said. You have live in pussy and you’d much rather jack off than fuck your woman.

Caesar groaned. No, I’d much rather be fucking, but it’s just hard for me to think about it right now, he said.

So, why not talk about it with Angela or get counseling or whatever couples do? Dexter suggested.

Because I don’t want to discuss it with her. We don’t agree when it comes to that, Caesar replied.

Dexter threw up his hands in defeat. Alright, man, whatever. Let’s talk about the ball then, he said, changing the subject.

Now Caesar rolled his eyes. I don’t want to go there either. My parents will be asking how everything is and I hate lying and pretending. It’s so fake, Caesar said thoughtfully. Every day he would try to think of ways to back out of it.

Yeah, but it’s an annual thing. You have to go, Dexter reminded him.

I know, Caesar said in annoyance.

Dexter watched his expression. There was so much anger and frustration inside Caesar. Dexter wished there was more he could do, but Caesar was so hard headed. He finally said, Things will work themselves out.

Yeah, they always do, Caesar replied as he stood to start the day.

    Chapter 2

It was the night of Jo Kim’s annual doctor’s ball. As usual, it was a huge affair. Angela walked around with Caesar’s mom and aunt. Caesar stood in a corner, talking with his father, Uncle Jo, Dexter, and a few other doctors. He would periodically glance around to find Angela. When he saw her they would stare at each other and smile like a couple of high schoolers.

Careful, son, you’ll end up having another baby soon if you keep that up, Dr. Young teased.

What? Caesar replied as he snapped out of his trance.

Dr. Young chuckled and said, Well, you’re staring at your wife like she’s a piece of meat. I’m just saying another baby might be a possibility.

Caesar put his hand up to stop him. We’re not ready for another baby right now, dad, he said sternly.

Are you still having problems? Dr. Young tried to ask his question quietly.

Yep, Dr. Kim answered for Caesar.

Dexter apparently had heard too. His mouth opened in shock. Caesar glared at his uncle. His mother had been sick, so he told his parents that everything was ok. Uncle Jo had promised not to say anything. So much for that. Clearly the wine had loosened his tongue.

    We’re fine, Caesar reiterated.

Dr. Young said, Ok, but if you need to talk about it, don’t be afraid to come to me. I don’t have to say anything to your mother about it, if that’s what you’re worried about.

Alright, I’ll let you know if I need to talk, Caesar said before walking away.

He couldn’t stand being around them any longer. Jo shrugged and poured himself and his brother in law some more wine. Dexter held out his glass as well. He stared at Caesar’s back, as he made his way over to Angela.

Excuse me, mom, Aunt Suji, can I borrow my lovely wife for a second? he asked as he placed his hand around Angela’s waist.

Of course, his mom said before kissing his cheek. She grabbed Aunt Suji’s arm and lead her toward Dr. Kim and Dr. Young.

Angela could tell something wasn’t right. What’s the matter? she questioned.

Caesar sighed. You know I love you, right? he asked.

Angela was shocked by that question. Of course I do. Why would you ask that? Does it have to do with what I said the other morning? I didn’t mean it, she replied.

Caesar opened his mouth to answer but was interrupted by Zulema. Hey, love birds! she yelled rather loudly.

Angela and Caesar turned to her and put on their happy faces. You made it! Angela exclaimed.

Zulema said, Of course! I have to find me a doctor to marry.

The women burst into laughter as they hugged each other. Caesar chuckled a bit too as he shook his head. Zulema turned to give him a hug as well.

Great to have you here, Zulema, he said.

They didn’t realize Dexter had popped up. Well, well, well, look who’s here, he teased.

Zulema pulled away from Caesar and rolled her eyes at Dexter. Ugh! Do you have to be here? she asked rudely.

Hmm, let me think. I’m a doctor and my uncle’s office is hosting the party. So, I would say, yes, he replied smartly.

Zulema narrowed her eyes and said, Whatever.

Dexter continued, You, however, are here to wrap your legs around the first doctor you meet.

You know what, Dexter… Zulema started to cuss him out but Angela pulled her away.

Caesar turned to Dexter and said quietly, Be cool, Dex.

Yeah, whatever, Dexter responded before taking a sip of wine.

They were talking amongst each other when another voice interrupted them, Hello, Caesar.

They all turned in the direction of the strange, new voice. Caesar appeared to be surprised by what he saw. Standing before them was a very handsome, tall young man. He had bright blue eyes and short, neat dirty blond hair. His skin was just slightly tanned. His lips were thin yet defined. He had a strong, chiseled jaw. Like the other male guests he wore a tuxedo and black dress shoes. Through the clothes it was obvious he was well built.

Hey, Caesar replied as he awkwardly shook the man’s hand.

Angela and Zulema looked at each other in confusion. Who is that? Zulema whispered her question.

I have no idea, Angela whispered back.

Well, he sure is fine, Zulema replied before biting her bottom lip.

Of course. He’s a doctor, Dexter whispered between them.

Shut the hell up, Dexter! Zulema
