Olivia, it looks like someone is finally moving in next door!

I looked up at my mom. I was sitting at the kitchen table, eating a quick breakfast before I go to my first class that morning. My mom stood by the kitchen sink, looking out the window.

I took one last spoonful of cereal and then walked the bowl over to the sink. I took a quick peek out the window as I rinsed the bowl clean. Sure enough, a moving truck was parked in front of the house next door. Two big, burly men had opened up the back of the truck and were starting to unload stuff.

It's about time that house was sold, I commented as I finished rinsing my bowl out. It's only been sitting empty since forever.

She laughed softly at that. Do you work tonight, honey? she asked me.

Sure do, I told her. I won't be back until late.

I kissed my mom on the cheek, grabbed my backpack, and headed out the front door. I stopped on the front porch and knelt beside my bicycle to unlock it. I unraveled the chain from around my bike and walked it down to the street. As I climbed on my bike to begin pedaling the couple of miles to school, a car pulled up in front of the house and parked in front of the house next door. As I rode past the house, I saw an older woman step out of the car
