Ingrid, I'm With You!

Never before has there been a first hand account on gaslighting. Clinicians began to refer to this insidious form of abuse after the 1947 film titled Gaslight. Ingrid Bergman, won an Academy Award for her portrayal of a woman being abused by a psychopath who led her to believe she was going mad. Yet, the film that was meant to scare audiences, is pale in comparison to the psychological warfare, people are starting to talk more and more about.

What makes gaslighting different from other types of domestic abuse? Not only is it done with malice- it is conscious. In other words, it is not learned behavior or what is commonly known as generational abuse. These victims, unknowingly fall into the trap of the narcissist, the pathological narcissist, or worst of all- the narcissistic psychopath. I ask myself all the time, where are all the other victims, and why am I the first one to write about being gaslit? Where are all the other victims?
