About this ebook

Kelly arrived just in time to help with the moving. The moving van was already there. Ruby sat on the side walk with her doll as I was packing. As soon as Kelly greeted me, she knew that there was something wrong with me. She held me by my shoulders and searched my eyes. “What is wrong?” She asked me.

“Jermaine” I replied. Just the sound of the name turned her face dark. She dropped her hands from my shoulders.

“What did that bastard do?

I picked up a box. “Showed up at my work” I put the box in the van. I walked back to the other boxes. I could hear Kelly muttering curse words.  “Yes and he said he missed me” I said as I put another box in the van.

“Okay Em, just come here for a second and let the men load up the van” Kelly grabbed me and pulled me towards her. “Tell me everything that happened”

“That was it. I slapped him after he said that and left”

“He's lucky it was you not me”

That was very much true. Kelly would have punched him the first moment she saw him. She had a shorter temper than me. Her motto was to strike first, ask questions later. She hated him as much as I did if not more. Over time, I had been able to let go off him. Being with Jason strangely made me forget. Yes he was a complicated man who probably did not like me the way I would want him to but he was a better man than Jermaine. He was who he was. He was cold but honest.

Honesty was the best gift to a person. Jermaine was not honest. He pretended to love and showered me with compliments. He was the exact opposite of Jason.

Are you okay though? Kelly asked me. I nodded. I was alright, I had been angry, I still was but I was okay.

We carried on packing the boxes into the van until everything was all done. The van then drove off. I followed in my fiat punto with Ruby and Kelly. The place was not too far. We arrived about fifteen minutes later.

This is too much work I complained as we started unloading everything. I really hated moving. There was always too much packing and unpacking.

Mum is coming over this weekend Kelly said.

Really? my eyes widened. It made me feel happy. She was definitely going to help with the unpacking. I kissed Ruby on her nose. She giggled.

I paid the movers in cash after they had finished unloading all the heavy stuff into the house. When we got into the house, I just threw myself on the sofa. I was too tired to start unpacking right away. We were definitely going to order in, because neither Kelly nor myself was in the mood to start cooking.

Who was that guy? Mona asked me as I arrived at work the next day.

Ex-Husband I said and carried on walking to my office. She followed me to my office.

What? I mean... She stopped speaking. She seemed confused. It was as if she had so much to say but nothing came out. I sat down at my desk and switched on my computer.

My good for nothing ex-husband that I told you about

Mr Pierce and him had an awkward stare off after you left

I frowned and looked at her. Stare off? Did they speak to one another? I asked her.

He tried but Mr Pierce walked off and left him just standing there

That was typically Jason. He would definitely not bother to engage in a futile conversation. Even if they spoke, what would they say to each other?

It was very awkward I greeted Jason with his coffee. I just placed it on the table and informed him about his meeting later. I
