Mia Rhain and Jason Trent are college sweethearts. They have been in love since they were in college and they get married. Jason is an aspiring young lawyer and Mia Rhain is in the business of hotel management, once they are married, their newlywed life seems perfect. In two years, the birth of their daughter was thought to change things for the better, he had become distant and cold towards her. Amelia helped for a while but he lapsed away, Mia had to figure out what was going on. The day she walked in on him in his office with another woman was the beginning of the end for the both of them.

I literary leaped out of my chair when I got the call from Crystal Ltd inviting me to come for an interview the next morning. They had finally got back to me after four months, I thought my application form was unsuccessful. It had not surprised me, Crystal Ltd was one of the best technology companies in London and were growing fast. My daughter; Ruby wiggled in her chair with excitement. It was as if she knew why I was happy. I smiled and kissed her. Life had not been easy for the two of us had not been getting by easily. I had to get a job as soon as possible. Life as a single mother was not easy. I whispered a little prayer, I had to get this job no matter what. The pay was good, the hours were good and there was a daycare really close. It was perfect. I carried Ruby in my arms and headed to the bedroom, not that it was far. We lived in a one bedroom apartment. After the divorce, we had to downsize.

My name is Lisa Simone Williamson, and I used to be the luckiest girl in the world. For starters, I was rich. Even better, I was actually born into money. My parents were once the proud owners of Simone Cosmetics, one of the largest and most successful African-American owned and operated cosmetic companies in the world. My parents both came from very hard-working families. But their families worked hard for other people, which was a concept that neither my mother nor father ever understood. My parents believed that if they were going to work hard, then they would work hard for themselves. So when they met one another and realized just how like-minded they were, the twosome joined forces both personally and professionally, got married, and created what eventually became Simone Cosmetics. After they had been married for a while and their company was up and running, my parents decided that they were ready to start a family. Not long after, I came along. I must admit, I had quite a charmed childhood. I lived in the most beautiful home that was located in the nicest part of town, attended the best schools, and had the greatest friends. My parents also got me involved in their business early on, because they had every intention on passing it down to me one day. So I knew everything that there was to know about running Simone Cosmetics. However, my favorite aspect of the company was its dynamic marketing department. I always loved watching the dapper men and glamorous women who worked in that area come up with creative and artistic ways to package and promote the wonderful products that my parents had created. Once I graduated from high school and went off to attend one of the top universities in the country, I decided to major in marketing. Those college years were wonderful. I met a lot of incredible people, was taught by some of the best instructors, and still remain close to the women I met when I pledged one of the top African-American sororities in the country, Alpha Kappa Kappa. During the summers, I would go home and intern at my parents’ company, in the marketing department of course. Those essential internships helped guide and motivate me and kept me focused. Ultimately, I always knew I would return to my parent’s company upon graduation, join the marketing team, and work my way up until I was running the show.    But one of the most exciting experiences I had during college was meeting the man of my dreams, David James. David was the star of the basketball team, and I was his biggest fan. My sorority sisters and I were considered celebrities on our college campus, and we always hosted the biggest parties and turned heads everywhere we went. The basketball players were regular party-goers, and David and I would always flirt whenever we’d see one another. So I wasn’t surprised when one of David’s teammates, who just so happened to be dating my best friend Janice, passed a message along saying that David was interested in me.

Mia and Jason proceed with their divorce, they settle their assets and go about their normal live. Gina, Mia’s best friend, moves in with her to help and ease her through the divorce. One day, Mia and Gina go shopping together for the ten year college reunion that they are invited to. Things take a turn for Mia when her daughter is admitted into the emergency room. Mia and Jason are forced to dissolve their marriage then and there. Mia goes to the reunion and meets Joseph Lauraunt, a young and charming businessman who came straight out of her past.

It was Wednesday morning, and I was headed to my interview with the Vice President of Human Resources at Giovanni Cosmetics. I was extremely nervous and sweating profusely underneath my makeup and designer suit. I turned my air conditioner on in the car full blast in hopes that it would cool both my body and my nerves. I could not believe that Ken, the man who’d I’d had a one night stand with a week ago, was actually Kenneth Giovanni of Giovanni Cosmetics. What’s worse, he was the newly-elected President of the company and was now running the show. Once I found all this out, I almost cancelled my interview, knowing that Ken probably wouldn’t want me working at his company. I’d already been humiliated enough having slept with him on the same night that we’d met and not hearing from him afterwards. The last thing I wanted to do was allow him to humiliate me yet again by not choosing me for this job. But my best friend Janice had insisted that I buck up and keep my interview appointment. After all, this was the opportunity that I needed to get back on my feet and back on track. So I covered myself in good luck hugs and kisses from my parents and daughter Madison and was on my way.

Mr Pierce was kissing me, he was actually kissing me and it felt good. Then he started caressing my cheek slowly, then my neck. I was not even sure how to react. This cold boss of mine was kissing me, touching my face and neck. Then he was caressing my side. He caress was magical. It sent shivers down my spine and ripples of pleasure around my body. He pulled me closer to me and deepened the kiss. My hands hung at my side awkwardly. I was not sure if I was supposed to touch him. When he broke off the kiss, I stood there just staring him, panting. His green gaze was resting on my face. He looked hungry, hungry for me. It made me nervous and confused. I had no idea what had just happened. I had my hands in mid air with my palms up. I put them the back down. I scratched the back of my head. “Mr...” I drifted off. I could not even say anything. I sighed with pleasure, I turned on my heel and left the room.

Mia leaves Joseph and goes back home, thinking she will never see him again. Although she was flattered and smitten by him, she is not ready for another relationship. Amelia stays with her father for a while and Mia discovers something she never thought she would. Joseph has bought the hotel she works for and is her new boss. He insists that she goes out for dinner with him and he takes her on his boat. They have a few dates and he tells her that he’s in love with her. This frightens her because she is so afraid to trust a man again, but her love for him prevails in such a short time. They get married and have five children together, along with Amelia, they begin their new lives together.

Kelly arrived just in time to help with the moving. The moving van was already there. Ruby sat on the side walk with her doll as I was packing. As soon as Kelly greeted me, she knew that there was something wrong with me. She held me by my shoulders and searched my eyes. “What is wrong?” She asked me. “Jermaine” I replied. Just the sound of the name turned her face dark. She dropped her hands from my shoulders. “What did that bastard do? I picked up a box. “Showed up at my work” I put the box in the van. I walked back to the other boxes. I could hear Kelly muttering curse words.  “Yes and he said he missed me” I said as I put another box in the van. “Okay Em, just come here for a second and let the men load up the van” Kelly grabbed me and pulled me towards her. “Tell me everything that happened” “That was it. I slapped him after he said that and left” “He's lucky it was you not me” That was very much true. Kelly would have punched him the first moment she saw him. She had a shorter temper than me. Her motto was to strike first, ask questions later. She hated him as much as I did if not more. Over time, I had been able to let go off him. Being with Jason strangely made me forget. Yes he was a complicated man who probably did not like me the way I would want him to but he was a better man than Jermaine. He was who he was. He was cold but honest. Honesty was the best gift to a person. Jermaine was not honest. He pretended to love and showered me with compliments. He was the exact opposite of Jason.

It was Monday morning, and I was sitting in my office, waiting for the clock to strike 10:00am. That’s what time my meeting with the Giovanni Cosmetics’ Board of Directors would begin. I’d be presenting my first ad campaign that I had created on my own since the Vice President of Marketing had been fired for embezzling money from the company. I had worked hard on the presentation all last week and over the weekend, and felt really good about it. When I ran it by my parents, they loved it and declared that I’d be promoted to the VP of Marketing in no time. But the presentation wasn’t the only reason I was feeling really good. My ex-husband David and I had gotten together unexpectedly on Sunday, and all these feelings that I had no idea were still there came rushing back. I knew David would be leaving for Spain this week with the chance to play professional basketball again, and he was so happy about it. Seeing him that happy, along with him being so excited for me and my new Marketing Director position, brought back the good memories that I had of us when we were still together. So the possibility of our family reuniting, along with the fantastic ad campaign that I’d created, had me floating on cloud nine. As I surfed the web and waited for my meeting to begin, an email popped up from Rick Barnes, the company’s Chief Financial Officer. Rick and I had developed a really nice rapport; one that Ken seemed quite jealous of. But ever since I’d slept with Ken again the weekend before starting my job, not to mention the conversation I’d overheard one of Marketing Coordinators having about sleeping with him, I’d been keeping my distance and remaining professional. Ken tried to talk to me on several occasions about things, but I blew him off as cordially as I could and told him that our relationship would remain strictly business from here on out.
