Christopher Mentzer
Having read the Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis, and all fantasy books by David Eddings, Chris took a stab at Fantasy with minimal success. He even attempted Science Fiction with a couple of buddies while in college. The bottom line was, he lacked discipline and the desire to stick with any one project. All that would change in 2005, because in November of that year, Chris entered his first writing challenge held by the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) website. Although the goal was 50,000 words, he obtained his personal goal of 25K, which went on to be the foundation of book 1 of The Askinar Towers Trilogy. He later wrote foundations for books 2 and 3 in ’07 and ’09 respecitvely. His inspiration for the towers books came from John DeChancie’s Castle Perilous series and Doctor Who’s Paradise Towers. Chris lives in Mesa, AZ. He is currently employed in the retail industry working as a personal shopper. In his spare time, when not writing or stalking the social media streams, Chris loves to read books by fellow indie authors.

Let’s Do Lunch
The sun was high over Thessa Mountains just south of Manzana Gran, as Jarryd came out onto the patio located on the Inn side of Quenchers Tavern and Inn. He served an adventuring party some tankards, then took a broom and swept off the porch steps.
A dwarf in a guard’s uniform of high rank ran up to the porch. I’ve caught you now, McCallen!
What? I need a permit for sweeping the porch?
Jarryd asked.
You’re violating your work furlough. You’re outside the tavern walls without another employee present.
He rubbed his hands in satisfaction. I’ve been waiting for you to slip up and now I have you.
Captain Bradstreet, with all due respect, I am still on Quenchers property. As you will notice, these steps are connected to the porch, which is connected to the inn, which makes up one half of Quenchers Tavern and Inn. I have not left the property at all and I know my restrictions.
A female elf came out of the building, with a book in hand, and looked at Jarryd and the captain. How is anyone supposed to get any reading done with all of this shouting?
Cassendra, Captain Bradstreet here thinks I’ve left Quenchers property.
Did you leave the last step?
No, I did not,
Jarryd replied. For all he cares, I might as well be standing over at Victuals on the other side of town.
But he was planning on leaving the last step to stand on the ground,
said Bradstreet. I could see it in his eyes, he was planning it. The greatest thief you are not.
I never admitted to being the greatest thief, that’s someone else,
Jarryd said.
Bradstreet, leave the soothsaying to the professionals,
Cassendra said. McCallen is always being watched by us, he’s not going to violate his work furlough. Why don’t you go harass somebody at the marketplace? Maybe you can break up the local sewing circle.
You mind your mouth, young lady,
said Bradstreet. Don’t think that I haven’t forgotten that you were on a work furlough in this very business at one time. I remember those days very well.
And so do I. Now if you’re finished, you’re disrupting our customers’ relaxation. Oh and, have a nice day!
Bradstreet scowled as he walked off.
You did a work furlough here?
Jarryd asked.
"Yes I did. But
