About this ebook
Hubris Towers’ most glamorous resident turns heads everywhere she goes. Now she has Jimmy’s head spinning, and he’s ready to go to any length to catch her eye. Absurd lengths, really.
Against a stunning international(ish) backdrop, Jimmy once again has to rely on his wit, ingenuity, and ability to hide behind a small stuffed burro. Of course, life at the Towers is never simple, and this time J. Edgar Hubris has his own surprises in store for Jimmy.
And those Russians do seem to keep turning up at the most inopportune moments.
This is the third installment in Hubris Towers, a comedy series for fans of P. G. Wodehouse and Fawlty Towers. If you’re new to the series, sign up at byfaroe.com/hubris to try the first two episodes on us.

Hubris Towers
Season 1
Episode 3: Jimmy In Love
Colonel Stuffins, an exuberant, white, wet puppy, dashed through the wide lobby of Hubris Towers, leaving a sudsy trail in his wake. Not far behind him, but losing ground, Jimmy Acorn gave chase. He held a bouquet of a dozen roses in one hand and a cast iron pan containing a pair of burnt fried eggs in the other, and he had just started to wonder what, exactly, he would do if he did manage to catch up to the soapy puppy. At least the front doors were closed.
Jimmy pounded after the puppy, doing his best to avoid the slippery trail of soap and to keep his grip on the roses and the pan. Stuffy was going to have to change directions any moment now, and Jimmy tried to prepare himself simultaneously to cut left or dodge right, depending on which way Colonel Stuffins turned.
Billiam!
he shouted.
The front door opened.
Colonel Stuffins dashed joyously out into the wide world.
No!
cried Jimmy.
Billiam appeared at his side, leash in hand.
The Stuffins!
cried Jimmy, waving his pan to indicate the wide world into which Stuffy had escaped.
I saw, Mr. Acorn,
said Billiam. Then he said something else. Jimmy didn’t notice.
A vision of pink silk and perfect blond hair wafted through the front door, cooing and exchanging puppy kisses with an armful of wet Colonel Stuffins. She was magnificent. Yes, she had perfect skin and a slender waist and the hint of a dimple in her perfect chin. But it was so much more than that.
It was like watching a legend come true, like seeing an elven queen walk into the lobby of Hubris Towers. There was dignity in her stride, dignity and energy, and there was elegance and authority in her hands as she handed Billiam her bags, and then as she passed Colonel Stuffins off and said something and Billiam said something she smiled, and the sunlight suddenly felt shabby beside her.
She began walking toward the elevator, and her steps in high heels and her grace as she avoided the soapy puddles were perfect. Her silk sundress was stained with water—some would say ruined, but her regal disregard was magnificent, and if the right people had been in the lobby to see her, water-stained silk would have hurried its way into the fashion pages as the Next Big Thing. As she passed Jimmy, their eyes met for a fleeting moment: perfect blue-green eyes with a wise and lovely crinkle at the edge, perfect eyes and a perfect, tempting, innocent smile, and perfect soft pink lips, and then a breath of perfume and a drift of perfect blond hair as she passed by.
Jimmy let out a small croak.
The rest of the world slowly made its way back into his awareness, the last few moments catching up with him in quick replay, and he realized Billiam had said, Yes, Ms. Leonelle.
He croaked again.
Yes, Mr. Acorn?
Billiam appeared at his side, holding a few shopping bags and Colonel Stuffins on a leash.
That’s—
Jimmy managed, waving the roses at her perfect, slender back.
Yes, Mr. Acorn. Ms. Leonelle.
But these are—
He waved the roses again, this time at Billiam’s face.
Yes, Mr. Acorn,
said Billiam, dodging deftly. They’re for her.
Ms. Leonelle was stepping into the elevator. Jimmy ran after her and let out another croak.
Ms. Leonelle!
he corrected himself. He hit a sudsy patch and slid along the smooth floor, waving the roses wildly and the heavy pan rather less wildly as he tried to catch his balance. Miraculously, he succeeded in staying upright. But he was too late. The elevator door was already sliding closed.
He skidded to a halt outside the elevator and sighed.
A set of manicured pink fingernails appeared around the edge of the elevator door, and it slid back open.
