The secret of being successful in selling is the ability to transmit your energy and your enthusiasm about your product or service. If you fail to do that, you will not sell. This book will show you how to get a thrill out of selling and how to sell better and more. It will help you realize that selling is more than just a 9 to 5 job. And it will give you over 200 reasons why selling is even better than sex.
Napoleon Hill was an American author who had this to say about sex:
Sex desire is the most powerful of human desires. When driven by this desire, men develop keenness of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them at other times. So strong and impelling is the desire for sexual contact that men freely run the risk of life and reputation to indulge it. When harnessed, and redirected along other lines, this motivating force maintains all of its attributes of keenness of imagination, courage, etc., which may be used as powerful creative forces in literature, art, or in any other profession or calling, including, of course, the accumulation of riches.
How true is that! He then goes on to speak about sex transmutation (sounds exciting, doesn’t it?!) This simply refers to the switching of the mind from thoughts of physical expression to thoughts of some other nature, such as selling.
Napoleon Hill also had this outlook to share about salespeople:
When employing salesmen, the more capable sales manager looks for the quality of personal magnetism as the first requirement of a salesman. People who lack sex energy will never become enthusiastic nor inspire others with enthusiasm, and enthusiasm is one of the most important requisites in salesmanship, no matter what one is selling.
Now there’s an insightful perspective about professionals who work in the sales industry! Your enthusiasm is contagious. If you can learn to transfer the energy that you have for the pleasure of sex and transmit that into your sales efforts, the rewards will be phenomenal!
Napoleon Hill says further:
The public speaker, orator, preacher, lawyer, or salesman who is lacking in sex energy is a ‘flop,’ as far as being able to influence others is concerned. Couple with this the fact that most people can be influenced only through an appeal to their emotions, and you will understand the importance of sex energy as a part of the salesman's native ability. Master salesmen attain the status of mastery in selling, because they, either consciously or unconsciously, transmute the energy of sex into SALES ENTHUSIASM! In this statement may be found a very practical suggestion as to the actual meaning of sex transmutation.

The world’s oldest profession involves selling. One might even argue about which came first – the selling or the sex? In fact, selling and sex are so closely related that succeeding at either one of them can be euphoric, addictive, and good fun.
Some people might like to argue that selling is not better than sex. They believe it’s the other way round. In this book I will give you over 200 different reasons why selling IS better than sex.
For a start, it’s okay to make a sale in public.
In fact, the more people that witness the sale you’re making and the product you’re providing, the better! Also, when they see first-hand the customer’s satisfaction at having had an excellent sales experience, it inspires them to think about making their own purchase. This leads to word-of-mouth referrals where you earn a reputation for being the best at what you do. You become known as the expert in your line of work. But sex in public? Well, that may just get you into a lot of trouble. And let’s face it – a reputation for being promiscuous is perhaps not the way you want to go.
This brings us to the next point: that it is perfectly legal to sell professionally. The Ten Commandments don't say anything about not selling. Yes, one of the commandments is Thou shalt not commit adultery
, but Moses did not climb Mount Sinai to receive the instruction Thou shalt not sell
. On the contrary, selling, bartering and trading were an essential source of income for many families, even in Moses’ time.
Nor is selling listed as one of the seven cardinal sins and the Pope makes no mention about the hazards of selling prior to marriage.
With a humorous twist, this book will take you through the essentials of successful selling, illustrating that business can be fun and should be fun. Love what you do and do what you love. A positive attitude reaps rewards. It was Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor Company, who said: If you think you can do a thing or you think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.
A positive attitude is the fuel that will drive your ability to achieve the tasks you undertake. Adopting an expectation of excellence and achievement is the first step to being successful at what you do.
You have the freedom to SELL! You can sell as much as you like, to whomever you like, for whatever the acceptable rate is, without exploiting yourself or bringing shame to your family name! Yes, selling IS definitely better than sex. And we’ll examine the reasons why more closely.
CHAPTER 1 - MAKING IT TO FIRST BASE
1.1 - Lose Your Nervousness
You’re weak at the knees, you’re sweating, possibly trembling a little, and your mouth is dry – so dry and tongue-twisted that you can barely even construct one coherent sentence. This is going to be your first kiss – your VERY first kiss and your heart is booming like a bongo drum.
Both of you are nervous and asking the same questions of yourselves: Does she really like me? Does he really think I’m cute? Do I need a breath mint? What if I don’t know what I’m doing?
There is so much pressure on the two of you, coupled with a desire to get that first kiss absolutely perfect. But, ultimately, because of your nervous tension, you both miss your target and end up kissing each other on the cheek. It may have been a let-down but at least you’ve broken the ice!
Making it to first base
is probably one of the most exciting, yet stressful, encounters that any young person can have. You’re completely inexperienced; there is no book that can teach you the basics of how to kiss or how to respond appropriately. If you’re a guy, your young friends are probably not going to be much help either – most of them will be just as inexperienced as you are. Of course there will always be one guy who doesn’t mind sharing his tips and tricks of the trade because he figures he is so incredibly wise when it comes to dating girls – but most of the time it’s a good idea to steer clear of his advice.
The girls, however, do have an amazing support system and you would most probably find a whole gaggle of young girls gathered in a room as they prep and groom their friend for her first date. They’ll be stuffing her bra with tissues, braiding her hair, applying her make-up, and providing a continuous commentary on how to handle each and every possible situation. She will, nonetheless, still be very anxious.
It’s only human nature to be afraid of the unknown. But once you begin to have an understanding of what is required and what to expect from the experience, you can settle down and enjoy the ride. Unfortunately, when it comes to first-time kisses and other sexual blunders, you’re basically alone in the world without a user guide.
With selling, however, you are NOT alone! There are a variety of methods to assist you with learning the science and art of selling. Selling is a subject that you can raise at the dinner table and toss around with family and friends. You can buy books about selling. You can attend training courses to learn everything from the basics to the most advanced techniques available. You need never enter the sales arena unprepared and nervous. And once you have a good understanding of the basics of sales, there will be many opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills.
Selling is a process that facilitates the experience of fulfillment for the buyer. If someone has a need, they go to an expert for advice. You, as an expert salesperson, identify the customer’s needs and offer the right solution at an acceptable price and, in doing so, enable the buyer to be fulfilled. Let’s examine more closely what this selling process involves.
As a salesperson, it is your mission to discover exactly what your customer requires by asking pertinent questions. Then you source the best and most cost-effective solution. Your customer walks away feeling satisfied - he’s a winner!
Selling is a skill to be mastered, and educating yourself in the finer details of selling techniques will serve you well. Selling, like sex, involves fulfilling a need. The best part about selling, though, is that people prefer to go to an expert for assistance. That’s YOU – the sales genius!
When it comes to sex, however, you’re not guaranteed a sexpert’s advice. Instead, it’s more about being happy with what you get. And it’s not as though you can easily flit from sexpert to sexpert sourcing different, better opinions. You’re pretty much stuck with what you get. There’s no guarantee of satisfaction when it comes to sex because not everyone is equally qualified for the job, and hopping around from one bed to the next only means that you don’t mind being promiscuous. Rather, the best solution is to find the one person (or expert) that you’re most comfortable with and to stick with them. It wouldn’t be good for your health to dabble around too much. This is where Mum’s advice does come in handy, and her reasoning is sound.
Your Mum probably never cautioned you about any hazards to do with selling. That’s because it doesn’t adversely affect your health, reputation or lifestyle. In fact, being a successful salesperson can have an excellent effect on your health. It relies on a good, solid reputation, and it can impact your lifestyle in a very rewarding way. Generally, if a customer is comfortable with the relationship that they have with you as an expert salesperson, they will keep coming back to you for trustworthy advice. And if they are satisfied, they will tell their family and friends.
And besides, success in sales is a widely recognized attribute, but when it comes to sex most of us probably wish to keep public knowledge of our performance to a minimum.
1.2 - Nothing Happens until Someone Sells Something
Selling influences the lives of both the seller and the buyer. As the salesperson, you are rewarded for doing a good job and for being successful in your career. You work hard at what you do and you need to do it well in order to be successful. Selling can be a cut-throat business so you have to be on the ball to maintain an achiever status. This means that you need to be continually learning and improving yourself. Be the best you can be. Mold yourself into a winner. The effects of your success will be extensive and ripple out to influence every area of your life.
This success is not equal to one night of gratifying pleasure. It is not short-lived. You don’t have to get up and leave the memory behind you – you LIVE this success, every minute of each and every day! This is not simply your career or your work – selling becomes your lifestyle and it enhances your standard of living.
Obviously, the buyer’s life is affected when he makes a purchase as a result of your sale. Having discovered your expertise he has taken your advice and fulfilled his particular need with this purchase. His life too has become enhanced by the sale and the effects can be widespread and have more of a
