    It's A Boy!

    It's a boy!

    Mom and dad, great job.

This being the fourth time we have heard these three little words, I understand my husband's pale face and the bit of terror in his eyes.

It's okay, I tell my panic-stricken husband, Craig. With another boy, we don't have to even learn to fold diapers again. We already know the thick part goes to the front and that placing a diaper over them while we change them avoids unnecessary showers. We know a lot about boys. They like being dirty, inflicting pain on others, teasing, destroying things, tossing things around, and sports of all kinds.

I'm not sure my husband is convinced. The nurse places our new son in my arms. Well, he feels the same as the others and he has that determined look on his face as the other boys have. Craig touches the baby's hand; the baby closes his fingers around my husband's index finger. The tears my husband's eyes tell me he is getting weak.

We quickly forget the things this baby with the soft little hands will get into. At this moment our thoughts are not on how many rocks these hands will throw, the balls they will bounce, the brothers they will hit, or the toilets they will splash in. For this moment we can only feel the sweetness of this new life. I begin to get excited about our new son. We can hold our heads high (this is not always the case with children). I am not afraid to show the world we brought another boy into it. I am ready for this new son; we can do it, so let the adventures begin…

    There it is. That
