About this ebook
What is Micropoetry?
Simply put, micropoetry is a genre of poetic verse characterized by its brevity. The poems contained within this book were written using prompts supplied by several Twitter users. The challenging task of micropoetry is not just writing a poem of less than 140 characters (the limits of a single Tweet on Twitter), but using a prompt to write a poem that stands alone and tells a complete story in such a small space.
As a writer, including such detail in a short space yet telling a story is great practice that spills over into prose. Sentences and paragraphs develop richer detail, becoming something much more appealing and read-worthy.
The micropoems in this book are presented to entertain and transport the reader, however briefly, beyond everyday reality. From love and faith, mortality and grace, vampire to werewolf, and zombies in between, within this mountain of stones, the reader is sure to find more than a few nuggets of gold.
Christopher J. Thomasson
Christopher J. Thomasson was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1972. His family permanently settled in the piney woods of East Texas when he was two years old. He discovered a love for reading and writing at a very young age and until recently, only ever wrote for himself, his family, and his closest friends. In April 2013, at the age of 40, Christopher suffered a mild heart attack while on the tennis court. Within a couple of days, he was undergoing triple-bypass surgery. Because of his love for tennis and the increased active lifestyle the sport provided, the doctors informed him of a miracle–with the clotting in his veins, his heart created new vessels to transport blood to those areas of the heart that were being depleted...and as a result of those new vessels, his heart had sustained no damage! As a result of this experience, Christopher realized that he has more to add to this life than merely existing–he has stories to share.

What is Micropoetry?
On March 12, 2014, I posted my first micropoem – Condensed Heaven - to Twitter using the prompts supplied by @RJ_kumarkumar using #orjay. Since that first post, I am now following several other hashtag prompts on twitter (#heartsoup, #ThePush, #ntitle, #xbwg, #AMSPC, #fieryverse, #MadVerse, and #WrittenRiver). By the time a month had passed, I’d written roughly 120 micropoems!
The challenging task of micropoetry is not just writing a poem of less than 140 characters (the limits of a single Tweet on Twitter), but using the prompt to write a full poem that stands alone and tells its story in such a small space. And even though it is a challenging process, the practice has added benefits for me as a writer. To include such detail in a short space yet tell a story is great practice that spills over into prose. As I write blogs, short stories, or novels, I’m seeing my sentences and paragraphs develop richer detail – something much more appealing and read-worthy.
I put each poem in alphabetical order so be warned, they are not ordered by themes or ideas. In fact, don’t be surprised if you read an inspirational poem followed by one with a zombie theme…or an erotic love poem followed by science fiction.
And yes, while my writing roots mostly revolve around the inspirational and religious, this book is a vast mixing pot of every genre-flavor. While I do not use foul language or explicit details, some of these poems do carry heavy themes that dwell beyond what many of my readers have come to expect with my work.
Why would I venture beyond my comfort writing-zone? The answer is in the question. As a writer, I have to push myself to write things that make me uncomfortable. Not everything in life is peaches and roses and smells of perfume – life is also full of bad eggs and sewage too. Writing about those things, in my opinion, helps my work become more realistic and entertaining.
And that’s what writing is all about, right? Being entertained? To be transported beyond the life that constantly pounds us with reality? It’s certainly why I like to read. And it’s a big factor in why I write.
So come take a walk with me beyond your reality and let me show you some of the nuggets from my imagination. Nuggets of gold? or nuggets of stone? That’s for you to decide.
Here we go…
The A’s
Abridged by the Soul
Life’s cold truth
that all end comes
my mortal heart
beats abridged by
the soul taker’s harvest
till these lungs
breathe no more.
Across the City
Raged fear spreads
across the city-
an unknown disease:
hands pressed to temples
in a feeble attempt to
stifle the brain’s boil.
Adorned with Pearls
Sun-tanned flesh,
hair spread out
like a crown-
panting chest-
skin adorned
with pearls of sweat:
Pleasured gasp resounds.
The Afternoon
After hours tryst
a chance meeting,
to lovers
embracing desire
chasing the afternoon
to darkest night.
Again as Before
T-minus ten,
ready to ride again,
as before sunset
the power trembles
beneath my seat.
Steadily rising-
chariot to the stars.
Aged Oak and Whiskey
This old house
creaking – vast,
hidden drafts
of ethereal wind;
memories of aged oak
and whiskey
permeate the air.
Alabaster Box
Translucent white
dense beyond measure
my heart hidden
inside this deep abyss,
this alabaster box
of life.
All in Blur
Face of stone
chips are all in,
blur of motion
as the bet is matched.
cards turn slowly-
let the sweating begin.
Amid the Gloaming
Secret embrace,
the long night
steals away;
amid the gloaming
courage drowned
by rising twilight
finally – we kiss.
Anchored
Chocolate eyes-
my soul enraptured;
captured-
a butterfly in a net
a fish on a hook,
I’m forever
anchored to you.
Angel
Twisted metal-
trapped inside
my life seeping out-
eyes roll
to the window;
an angel whispers
Be calm.
Ancient Minds
Mysteries written in stone,
words unlike any known
knowledge of ancient minds
passed from age to age
still pondering their meaning.
Another Language
I hear the words
I understand
their deep meaning
but your actions
speak another language-
leaving me
guessing and confused.
Another Man’s Reflection
No matter
the words,
the false
truths spoken;
All he sees
in that silvery glass
is another
man’s reflection.
Apples
Slippery words
serpents forked tongue
apples in hand
delivering the inevitable
fall of man.
Approved by God’s
Eyes closed
looking within,
my sin not approved-
by God’s own son
I seek forgiveness-
transgressions covered
by blood.
Around the Bend
Tied tight - but
