    PART A

    SHRED DIET GUIDE

Chapter 1- What is the Shred Diet?

For many individuals, losing weight can be extremely difficult. There is nothing more frustrating than sticking with a diet and exercise plan, only to find that it is impossible to lose the last twenty pounds. When an individual hits a weight loss plateau, one may resort to dangerous dieting techniques, or may simply give up. Fortunately, there is now an innovative diet plan available for individuals who are looking for an effective way to speed up their metabolism and lose weight fast.

The Shred diet, created by Dr. Ian Smith, is considered to be one of the most effective diet plans ever discovered. The shred which is endorsed by Dr. Oz, works by utilizing diet confusion and meal spacing to supply the body with an ample amount of caloric intake while keeping blood sugar spikes at bay. By doing this over a substantial period of time, one's metabolism will work most efficiently to burn fat stores, while staving off hunger. The shred diet does not require an individual to severely restrict caloric intake. As a matter of fact, one of the guiding principles of the shred diet is to eat at least three meals and three to four small snacks throughout the day. Therefore, one should never feel hungry or deprived while on the shred diet.

There are six main components of the shred diet. These cycles are meant to work with the body's natural chemistry and aid in increasing metabolic efficiency, while enhancing the liver's natural abilities to remove toxins from the system. The six cycles of the shred diet are: Prime, Challenge, Transformation, Ascend, Cleanse, and Explode.

During the first cycle, Prime, an individual spends his time becoming familiar with the components of the Shred diet. The Prime cycle sets the stage for weight loss success, as the dieter learns appropriate snacking techniques, how to plan low calorie meals without sacrificing flavor, as well as how to effectively deal with hunger pangs. Appetite suppression is a key component of the Shred diet.

The initial stages of this diet process are thought to be more difficult than the subsequent stages, due to the fact that the dieter is resetting his system and possibly detoxing from processed snacks and convenience meals. A large component of the Prime cycle, is keeping a record of all meals and snacks consumed throughout the day. By calculating one's daily caloric intake, an individual becomes more aware of what he may be consuming on a regular basis.

During the Challenge cycle, the dieter implements a healthier diet into his lifestyle, focusing on reducing caloric intake, while making healthier food choices. The Challenge cycle is one of the primary reasons why community support in the form of a diet forum or friends and family is vital to weight loss success. An individual often finds himself dealing with great temptation during the Challenge cycle.

The Transformation cycle is often the point at which dieters following the Shred diet will begin to notice physical changes taking place in his body. Although this stage in the process is also quite difficult, the remarkable changes and subsequent weight loss often keeps people dedicated to the Shred diet at this point. Often times, people following this diet plan will drop between one and two pant sizes during the Transformation cycle.

Week four marks the beginning of the Ascend cycle. At this point, a person's confidence and self esteem take new heights, as the most difficult weeks of the process have come to an end. During the Ascend cycle, most people find that they are able to successfully control their cravings, while others may find that their cravings may be completely eliminated.

During week five, the Cleanse cycle begins. During this week, a person learns how to utilize natural foods and supplements in order to boost the liver's detoxification capabilities. The liver is a vital component in one's weight loss endeavors, as it works to break down fat, toxins and other substances which may hinder weight loss progress. When an individual learns how to detoxify his liver, energy levels often increase, which further prompts an increase in stamina and
