Did I feel I could have done better in life and made better decisions? Maybe I could have been a better man and husband. Or that the woman I married was the wrong one? Unfortunately, that was the story of my life.

When the lawyer decreed our divorce final, it ended my marriage. Jake and Jill Morgan were no longer a couple. I felt deflated and incompetent. She got everything; the house, the kids, the new car, and all I got was the debt.

I figured after paying alimony and child support. I’d maybe have enough to eat and rent a room. However, I had enough money to drain my sorrows with a few beers. Make that many beers.

I had taken the day off from my job to appear in court with a cheap lawyer who might as well have been my ex-wife’s counsel. I was wiped clean, and my cheap-ass lawyer did little to stop the hungry wolf my ex had.

I was an automobile mechanic and a damn good one, but too honest, it seems, for many station owners. I finally landed a job with an old guy who still had a set of morals. I made a modest living, but evidently not enough for Jill, my now ex-wife.

My two daughters were seventeen and fifteen, the product of the sex Jill and I occasionally had. Again, that was the story of my life. Don’t marry the first girl you fuck. It turned out to be disastrous for me.

Jill was a virgin when we finally decided to go all the way, and so was I. Once we ventured down that road, I figured the sex would only get better. I was wrong.
