Tawny sat staring at her calendar. December fifth, her thirtieth birthday. The man she loved had just walked out of her life for good, leaving Tawny empty and depressed. She opened a small plastic vial containing enough painkillers to put her out of her misery for good.

Happy Birthday to me, Tawny whispered as she took a gulp from her glass of wine and shook the container of pills.

I’m so tired of being alone. I’m so tired of trying to be perfect, she said aloud.

Tawny opened the vial. She swallowed the first pill and then sang softly between tears. How old are you now?

Elliot was finished for the night. It seemed the world was a better place to live because he existed. At least it was for the young blonde who lay sated and languid by his side. A little thing called online dating, blogs, and various personal websites made it a lot easier for Elliot to meet women. He no longer relied on discos, bars, and after-hour clubs to meet females. Now they were a fingertip away, given his trusty laptop.

But tonight, Elliot had been clubbing and dancing, meeting women the traditional way.
