About this ebook

Cody never wanted to leave New York City, but her parents' divorce left her no alternative. At twenty-two, she had yet to experience life and its true pleasures.

At thirty-three, Chase Martin was a tall and handsome Texan and a true player. He never left his Stetson at any woman's bed for any length of time. That was his intention upon meeting the very voluptuous and relatively innocent Cody Flannigan.

On the first day he meets her, he seduces her, introduces her to every hidden pleasure known to a man and a woman, and then tries to walk away. But Cody's like a drug, far more habit-forming than he imagined. For the first time in his life, Chase falls hard for the luscious brunette.

Cody Flannigan falls in love with Chase, her love genuine. There will never be any hidden agendas with Cody, yet the one man she gives herself to may one day break her heart. Will Chase love her, desire her, and show her how a man loves a woman?

Will he give her all of him and show her his Texas heat, now and always?

    Prelude

    Horseshoe outline

Born and raised in Brooklyn, at twenty-two, Cody Flannigan wasn’t ready for any changes in her life. After twenty-seven years, her attractive mother divorced her father, leaving Cody and her mother nowhere to live. Her father had gambled away any money they may have had and re-mortgaged their brownstone to the hilt, leaving no equity for anyone after the sale.

At fifty-seven, Maria Flannigan, aka Maria Cancico, was going home, and that home was Texas.

Are you crazy, Mom? I’m not going to bum fuck Texas. They still have men riding horses out there instead of driving cars. God, there are no trees out there, just tumbleweeds. No way, I’ll find a way to stay here, Cody argued with her mother.

Mio Dios, Cody, you’ll go with me, and don’t even think of staying here in New York alone. This city will eat you up alive. You’re coming with me. Your uncle has a huge ranch in Martinez, in San Antonio, two hundred acres. He’s offered us a place to live, a lovely guesthouse on his spread. I need solace, Cody. I’ve had enough of all that New York has to offer. It’s time to go home, Maria scolded her daughter.

For you, maybe, but not me. I’ve just begun to live my life. I’m not going to some dude ranch in Texas. God, can you imagine the men out there? Probably toothless and, oh God, Mom, old, Cody cried.

Don’t be silly, Cody. From what I can remember, they grow great-looking men out there. I should’ve stayed in Texas but wanted to be a dancer. I wanted the glamour of the big city. It’s wrought me nothing but heartache. I don’t want that for you. You have a degree in education, honey. You can find a teaching job out West and maybe in Texas. It is still the wild and untamed west, where you can find a real man.

Look, Mom, I know you’re bitter about Dad, but I love him, and I’ll miss him, Cody said, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Please give it six months, and if you can’t make a go of it in six months, I won’t stop you from returning to New York. Does that sound fair?

Mom, don’t be upset when I leave, okay?

    Chapter One

    Horseshoe outline

Chase Martin put the last of his horses in the stable. He genuinely loved horses and had since he was a kid growing up in Chicago. By the time he was fourteen, he’d read every book there was on horses. Seeing the interest, his father helped Chase realize his dream by packing his family and moving to Texas. His parents bought a small ranch outside of San Antonio and bought a few heads of cattle. Chase was a licensed veterinarian; of course, his specialty was equine. He was also one of the best horse trainers in the San Antonio area.

But at thirty-three, he realized his dream and became a Vet, but Chase was still single. It wasn’t because of celibacy. Chase had probably sampled every gorgeous and available single female in the state of Texas. He couldn’t make
