Rawley Munroe

Rawley Munroe was born in a log cabin in Kentucky where he grew up without a mother, walking miles to school and working on the family farm until he moved to Illinois . . . no wait, that's Abraham Lincoln. Rawley Munroe is just a guy who's been writing since he can remember with a few awards here and there (or is that just his imagination?); he writes drama, fiction and non, sometimes comedy and sometimes serious, but always with the sad and profound knowledge that he is not and never will be Abraham Lincoln.

    Part 1

When Bob lost his job, he really didn’t think it was the end of the world. He had been thinking about leaving anyway. He had been at the same job, same place for twenty three years. Time for a change. He was at that age when change felt like a necessity. He was 48. He felt if he didn’t have a change soon he’d go out of his mind. So when he lost his job it caught him by surprise – but he was ok with it. Sure, he hadn’t expected it.

Hey Bob, Tom said, poking his head in Bob’s office, you got a sec?

    Sure Tom, what’s up?

Well, we’ve been going over the numbers, and –

Yeah, Tom, I’m glad to hear you say it, me too, something’s gotta give, we can’t keep on with these kind of expenditures . . . hey Tom, you sure have a funny look on your face, you eat something bad at lunch? Did you tie one on again last night like you did last week? Ha, ha, man that was some night, huh? Tom? . . . What’s the matter? . . .

Turns out Bob was the matter. Who would have thought it? Twenty three years. Nobody really very emotional about it when he left, either. Even Tom. He was out when he left. Funny. Oh well, like he said, time for a change anyway. He could afford it for awhile. Took a few weeks just to relax. First time in twenty three years he could do that. Had a good time. Hey, he was single, wasn’t he? Almost tied the knot a couple of times, but didn’t work out.
