ONE OF MANY
"He told me he was being careful. What he meant was he was too scared to fall in love. I still think he could have been the one, but he never did stop being careful." —Romyn Babele, author of Memoirs of a Harem Worker, 8649–

Mareck, one of the newest workers Sa’Marckale had added to her ever-growing harem, wore a look of uncertainty and confusion, his inexperience with harem life showing. He clearly had no idea of the significance of the events being discussed.
Arlen knew, although his knowledge came from rumor and gossip. He’d never known anyone who’d
