Dear Paul,

It was your voice that first got my attention.

Standing on stage with all the confidence in the world, it echoed through the theatre, making the hairs on my arms stand on end.

Who’s that? I wondered.

It was June 2000, and I was at the theatre with my two children – Robert, then 16, and Tracey, 15.

You were also divorced, and while you worked for EDF, your real passion was singing at the theatre.
