YAPPY ENDING

Locking the back door after a long day, I turned to check that my dogs Ralph and Edie – brother and sister – were both tucked up in their beds.

‘What the hell?’ I said out loud as I realised that five-year-old Ralph had disappeared.

Edie was there, chilled and relaxed as always – but there was no sign of mischievous Ralph.

Searching the kitchen, I began to think of my wire-haired Dachshund as a kind of Houdini.

This is very peculiar, I thought.

But then I heard a little snuffling sound from the corner of the room, and upon investigation, I found cheeky little Ralph hiding behind the curtain.

He had a very naughty expression on his face.

‘Bedtime is no time for games, Ralph,’ I told him sternly, before
