Chapter 1: Fat Anna

She felt like she could not breathe, and she was suddenly becoming nauseous and dizzy at the same time. As Anna looked around, she faced blurring visions of her peers throwing bananas and empty cups at her. FAT ANNA! FAT ANNA! They shouted at the top of their lungs as they threw at her whatever they could get their hands on. Anna felt like she was in a small box that kept getting smaller and smaller. Finally, she dropped down to her knees and passed out.

When she woke up, she was laying on a bed. When she looked up, she saw Nurse Brown by the sink washing her hands. She got up and sat at end of the bed, as she tried to remember how she got into the nurse’s office.

Nurse Brown heard the crunching of the bedsprings, turned around, and walked over to her. How you feeling, Anna? She asked, in a concerned mothering tone.

Am doing ok. My head just hurts a little. Anna touched her head only to realize that she had a small bandage on the side of her forehead.

For a minute there, you scared us. You fainted in the gym room. Your coach was late for class and, from what Nick tells us, the other kids were making fun of you when you collapsed to the floor, said Nurse Brown. Anna recalled what happened and was embarrassed when hearing the nurse recount the story.

Nurse Brown, can I please go home for the rest of the day? I’ll be ok. She said, as she tried to get off the bed and leave this uncomfortable situation.

Anna, you don’t have to feel bad, the nurse assured her. Bullying is something we take very seriously here at Creston.
