As a young girl in Uganda, Molly Gambiza knew she wanted to see the world, so when an opportunity arose to work as a nanny in England, she jumped at the chance. She arrived in the United Kingdom speaking only a little English and taught herself to speak the language by reading as many novels as possible. Now living in the United Kingdom, the couple has been married for twenty-five years. A Kiss and A Cappuccino - Molly Gambiza

CHAPTER ONE:

True Love

That one won’t work, Hannah thought, shaking her head. She pushed passed the blue dress and she rifled through her wardrobe for something to wear on their second date. But she had worn that blue number on their first date—when she met him for a Cappuccino—and now she needed something more exciting.

Her phone rang—and she froze. In her heart of hearts she prayed it wasn’t her parents. They hadn’t spoken since her first date with this man. The truth was, Hannah had no idea how to tell them he was black. They would probably die. For years, her mother had pressed Hannah to marry their neighbour Alastair—a grim little man in his 50’s. He was tight as a nun, which seemed like hell. Hannah wanted no part of it.

While Alastair would have passed the years by counting pennies at the grocery store, Jacob, a real man, beamed with adventure and promised anything but boredom. To drive the point in, Alastair had passed on sending Hannah roses last Valentine’s Day because—as he so eloquently put—roses are cheaper four days after Valentine’s Day.

What made matters worse was her mother seemed to find this trait favourable.

Mother? she had asked. What’s the point in that?

Her mother simply shrugged, probably self absorbed with the idea that she had put her daughter and Alastair together for many rather obvious reasons, He’s just a careful man, and knows how to manage money! His detached house is inviting, and that older mother of his is not long for this world. Don’t let that wealth pass you by. It’s foolish! But, after some rather furious push-back, Hannah drilled in the idea that Alastair was, perhaps, not the best fit for a young woman like Hannah.

Sadly, an emotional lifetime away, Alastair still lingered like a bad smell. But today promised something new. She flipped passed her trouser jeans and found a black dress with white designs on the hem and the sleeves. This, plus a flair of silver from her mother’s jewellery box, was going to be her irresistible look. If he didn’t fall in love with her today, he was insane.

She looked longingly at her silver necklace. I’ll return these to mother before she finds them missing, she thought. She leant forward and doused perfume behind her ears, between her breasts, her wrists and between her toes—just in case their date ventured that far south.

Those lips were voluptuous and succulent enough to do whatever they wanted. She made eye contact with herself in the mirror. Hannah was a confident young woman, ready for any adventure. But she wasn’t prepared the danger that awaited her.

*****

Jacob sat in the bar and waited for Hannah—his foot consistently tapping. There was something inside his head telling him to bolt before he messed everything up all over again, but Hannah was too good of
