    About the Author

    Foreword

As a Job Readiness Instructor I was responsible for helping individuals find employment in a recessive economy. I saw the reluctance, tears and frustration on the faces of the people who came to class. Some thought that the positive spin I added to the class was possibly from a person who was out of touch with what was really happening in the neighborhoods where they lived. I listened to the reasons that students used to explain why they couldn't get a job i.e. "There are no jobs out there. They don't pay enough money." "I can't get a job because of my record." Within an hour of attending my class I had most students convinced that they had the power to control their lives if they evicted Mr. Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was a character I created from the adage "Anything that can go wrong, will." (Although you will learn that was not the statement that Captain Edward A. Murphy really said while serving in the Air Force.) I gave them strategies and when they applied them, they were surprised that they worked. Little did I know that everything I was teaching my students I would have to begin to practice in earnest myself, when my family experienced multiple visits from Mr. Murphy.

It seemed as if someone had put something in the water because people were being let go
