- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I didn’t expect much based on this being a short audiobook and it wasn’t but it did give me some very basic ideas of stoicism.
Two constructive criticisms: the writing wasn’t done that well and the narration is in need of consideration for being redone.
The narrator mispronounced words, there was at least one editing issue and in general the narrator needs to improve his technique before doing additional books.2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Ok, that was challenging. Content is kinda interesting, but the delivery and writing is terrible. The narrator sounds like he just finished some profane actors courses, and like he recorded all of this in a hurry, without a break. Intonations are weird, the dictionary name was mentioned five times or so, describing unnecessary meanings which were redefined by the author afterwards. All ideas could have beed described with a sentence or two, but instead was delivered and chewed like children are the target audience.

it's an exciting time to be a book reviewer. Once confined to print newspapers and journals, reviews now dot many corridors of the Internet — forever helping others discover their next great read. That said, every book reviewer will face a familiar panic: how can you do justice to a great book in just a thousand words?m. THANKS1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The content was fine, I found the narrator a little distracting from the experience.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A lot of "the dictionary defines X as..." The narrator's feigned enthusiasm was distracting, as well as the numerous issues with the actual content. At one point, he started a sentence wrong, then started it over.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5This audiobook gave me no help. It’s way too short to provide any guidance or wisdom or even enough information to be useful. The person reads misspellings throughout the she pointless 10 min long book.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5O God this was a terrible. I have never experience more laughable summary of stoicism. It literally begins with a congratulations For picking up a 26 minute long summary. This would be considered mediocre in a Freshman philosophy paper.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5very comprehensive book that explains that Stoicism was one of the new philosophical movements of the Hellenistic period. The name derives from the porch (stoa poikilê) in the Agora at Athens decorated with mural paintings, where the members of the school congregated, and their lectures were held. Unlike ‘epicurean,’ the sense of the English adjective ‘stoical’ is not utterly misleading with regard to its philosophical origins. The Stoics did, in fact, hold that emotions like fear or envy (or impassioned sexual attachments, or passionate love of anything whatsoever) either were, or arose from, false judgements and that the sage – a person who had attained moral and intellectual perfection – would not undergo them. The later Stoics of Roman Imperial times, Seneca and Epictetus, emphasise the doctrines (already central to the early Stoics’ teachings) that the sage is utterly immune to misfortune and that virtue is sufficient for happiness. Our phrase ‘stoic calm’ perhaps encapsulates the general drift of these claims. It does not, however, hint at the even more radical ethical views which the Stoics defended, e.g. that only the sage is free while all others are slaves, or that all those who are morally vicious are equally so. (For other examples, see Cicero’s brief essay ‘Paradoxa Stoicorum’.) Though it seems clear that some Stoics took a kind of perverse joy in advocating views which seem so at odds with common sense, they did not do so simply to shock. Stoic ethics achieves a certain plausibility within the context of their physical theory and psychology, and within the framework of Greek ethical theory as that was handed down to them from Plato and Aristotle.
