About this audiobook

One spy. One dangerous book. One deadly mission. The first in a delightful fantasy mystery series, The Invisible Library is the astounding debut from Genevieve Cogman.

Irene must be at the top of her game or she'll be off the case – permanently . . .

Irene is a professional spy for the mysterious Library, which harvests fiction from different realities. Along with her new assistant Kai, she's posted to an alternative London. Their mission – to retrieve a dangerous book. But lo and behold, when they arrive, it's already been stolen. London's underground factions seem prepared to fight to the very death to find her book.

In this world teeming with supernatural creatures and unpredictable magic, Irene soon finds herself up to her eyebrows in a heady mix of danger, clues and secret societies. And Kai is also hiding secrets of his own. Yet failure is not an option – the nature of reality itself is at stake.

'It's a breath of fresh air' – Guardian

Continue the journey with the second adventurous title in the The Invisible Library series, The Masked City. Genevieve is also the author of the Sunday Times bestselling Scarlet - which reimagines the tale of The Scarlet Pimpernel, but with vampires, mages and magic . . .

Author

Genevieve Cogman

Genevieve Cogman started on Tolkien and Sherlock Holmes at an early age, and has never looked back. But on a perhaps more prosaic note, she has an MSc in Statistics with Medical Applications and has wielded this in an assortment of jobs: clinical coder, data analyst and classifications specialist. Although The Invisible Library was her debut novel, she previously worked as a freelance roleplaying-game writer. She is the author of the Invisible Library series and the bestselling Scarlet Revolution trilogy. Genevieve’s hobbies include patchwork, beading, knitting and gaming, and she lives in the north of England.

Fantasy in a modern world twist. Very unique but feels a need. Also so many layers to all the characters.

The type of book that puts way too much in itself, but with the best possible result. Would be great for any steampunk, Victorian era, or Doctor Who fan.

Great main character, interesting supporting characters with their own secrets and motivations, interesting universe(s).

For the audiobook, the production was neat, well paced, and had the perfect narrator.

Love this series! It’s like the ya fantasies I used to love but for a more mature audience.

If you enjoy Jodi Taylor's St. Mary's series but need something a tiny bit less tense (but still action filled) this might just hit the spot for you!!

I'm two hours into this audio book and it feels empty. Might be the narrator. Great premise, well executed, but it lacks wit, humor and emotions. Nothing wrong with it, just kind of a yawn.

I find it hard to truly enjoy the narrator in most audiobooks-but I loved this one. She was just right. The male characters voices don’t sound ridiculous and I absolutely loved the story itself-and was able to focus on what the author had written and wanted to convey. Love love love. Starting the next book immediately.

A very beautiful beginning to a quite roller coaster ride of a story.
1st Irene is my sweet sweet child and i will kill anyone who hurt her,
2nd Kai is my little adorable precious baby and i will again kill anyone who hurts him...
mmmmmm.... anything else... not sure.... except... yeah read and judge for yourself....
off to start the next one.

I liked it. It got a bit fraught at points, but overall it is a good premise and I can see there is a lot of story to go on in the series. I think I need a break from fantasy, tho, so I am gonna read some straight fiction before carrying on with the series.
